Show Worthy Of Consideration Should Springville align itself with other cities ' and communities of the entire country to avail itself of money that will be available undei' the national recovery re-covery act? . the Springville Herald, -acting as a medium . ot expression for the people of this community, would not under ordinary times of stress urge the city to assume any indebtedness. Yet when it is known that the federal government will donate 30 percent for any worthwhile make-work projects, and give the city 30 years' in which to return money borrowed without interest, in-terest, it is something worthy of earnest consideration. Under such a proposal would it not be advisable for this city to outline two or three make-work projects for the benefit if the unemployed and for the bener.it of the citizens generally. Springville could save itself approximately $1,000.00 a year by the construction ot a power plant that would be sufficiently large to handle the power demands of this community. Such a project pro-ject would furnish considerable employment for our unemployed, and jt would also go a long way toward making Springville a tax-free city. Another project that is absolutely necessary u this city is to expand is an adequate sewer system, especially throughout the business district. The present pre-sent cesspool system will be absolutely inadequate U the city grows as many hope to see it grow in the next few years. - The same is true of its water system. It has been ,,.,,c.wi tii., i P.in-i v win-inns, now owned bv the city. be piped into the regular water system. These, ot course are merely suugestive projects. Others miht be suo'g-ested and developed under the recovery art to the advantage of the city, and give employment to our local unemployed. Sj Active leadership in this matter should be assurn-ed assurn-ed by our city officials with the cooperation ot the Icivic'organizations and business men. |
