Show ANTI - FLOOD BARRIERS TO BE ERECTED Canyons Near Provo To Re Scene of Activily In Erosion ConlrpI Work of including the lands east of Provo and Springville in state or federal lands and of effecting erosion control and making a recitation area out of the district went forward for-ward Tuesday morning when the chamber of commerce forest and flood control committee commit-tee held two meetings. The chamber committee was promised the aid of Provo city and Utah county in the work which is designed for one thing to erect flood-control harriers in the five canyons in the district. This work is expected to he done by the stiite camp which is now located in Hobble Hob-ble Creek under direction of Mark Anderson, member of the committee. commit-tee. It is believed that the government govern-ment wiJl allow this state camp to go forward all winter with such a program of needed work in front of it. Flood Damage Threat The program as outlined by the committee Tuesday would include the erecton of flood barriers in Rock canyon Slide, Slate, Little Rock and the canyon above the Steel plant. As pointed out by Clayton Jenkins, member, of the committee, there have aiready been three floods, this year in the territory terri-tory east of Provo. Dr. Vasco M. Tanner, chairman, Charles De Moisy, Jr., Swen O. Neilson, I. E. Brockbank, H. B. Makin and Mark AndeiT.on, all of Provo, and Mayor John Whiting and William Witney of Springville met and discussed the work Tuesday Tues-day and also met with the count; commissioners. It was- brought out at the meeting that already considerable progress had been made toward securing easements from owners of somo of the property prop-erty in the territory. A. L. Winsor, state expert wil 1 be sent down next week to locato the barriers and the city and county will cooperate in securinc the right of ways and locatingth3 sites for the barriers. The program as out'ined is a far,-reaching far,-reaching forestry plan which means to include the entire siop back to Provo peak in state or federal land so that it can bs placed under proper scenic, flood and erosion control. Mr. Anderson Ander-son has also outlined a system of trails and roads which might be built to open up the country as a recreational center. |
