Show Holtzer Armor Piercing Projectiles Special THE HERALD Examiner Dispatch NEW YORK May 17A Time special from Washington says The Holtzer process pro-cess of making armor piercing projectiles has been acquired by the Midvale Steel company of Philadelphia and will be first used in the manufacture of a lot of 810 and 12inch shells for the army Holtzer sheila are regarded as the best in the world and for several years several American firms and tho ordnance bureaus of the army and navy have been negotiating for the establishment estab-lishment of the process in the United States The Holtzer company would not agree to any reasonable terms however and finally when the Carpenter Steel company of Reading Read-ing Pn under contract for navy was able to produce by the Firminy process shells fully up to the Holtzer standard the navy department discontinued correspondence with the Holtzer company Nothing is known of the terms secured by the Midvale company but the great success of the Carpenter company probably had the effect of bringing the Holtzer people down in their demands This acquisition by the MIdvalo company Is of great importance to tho army and navy as the two best methods of making armorpiercing projectiles are now established in the United States and the government can have the advantage of their competition |
