Show COMMSSIOKER EATJM I Says He Does not Contemplate Resigning A Coterie In the Pension Bureau is Conspiring Against Him His Relations with Secretary Sec-retary Noble Are Pleasant WASHINGTON May ISAn Associated Press reporter tonight called the attention of Commissioner of Pensions Raum to the statement that he contemplated resigning In reply ho said he had not stated it was his intention to resign but had said he could not undertade to administer the office I without the confidence and confdence support of the I President And RPOVAtnrv nf the interim At a personal interview with Assistant n Secretary Chandler and Assistant Secre tary Bussey both expressed entire satis faction with his administration and entire Confidence in him onfdence personally The com missioner said he wished the pub lie to understand that there is I a coterie of men in i Washington a few of whom arein the pension office who have formed a conspiracy to break down my character as a public officer and private citizen and bring the pension office into public disrepute I am not going to be driven from office by these men I have devoted my best thought and energy to the bureau and it is at the present time one of the most efficient working organizations of the govern efcient ment While there are a few persons who should be removed for disloyalty and inefficiency the great body of the office is composed of intelligent and industrious men and women who are per forming their duties with fidelity and zeal fdelty 1 do not contemplate resigning at this time The commissioner added his rela pleasant tions with Secretary Noble were entirely |
