Show November 10, 2000 The Summit County Bee South Summit Senior Citizens BY C1IERJ BEAL . Old Man Winter is coming it our nose! Cynthia of Kamas Health was back at the Center armed with Pneumonia shots to protect us against the season. Friends of Cumorah Brinlon were sure pleased to see her out and hope she is able to join us again soon. Hallowe'en found our Senior Goblins in the haunts of Woodland to enjoy Serge's" Pumpkin Patch with over 100 beautifully carved pumpkins. Mary Smith said, It seems to get better every year." The following night found everyone was back at the Center for a Chilifest. Those who were there had great fun. good food and games afterward. Those who werent there... missed out. We need to remember and sign up for the HEAT program and with this weather who could forget? Call the HEAT office at for information on weatherization assistance. Work and a new Church calling have kept me hoppin' these past few weeks. Monday I stopped by the Center to see if I could get any news and a group Bonnie Wilde called the die hards" were still playing cards. 1 had referred to the group as the late bloomers" and the conversation turned to the big bloomers the ladies used to wear made from flour sacks. Br-r-- r, out of hibernation and nipping Lydia said someone's bloomers were called White Fawnsf???) cuz that was the brand name of the bag her bloomers w ere made from. Later Miss Elaine was telling me about Red Roosters. I asked if they were red and she laughed and said. No, it was the brand name on a paper tag and you just tore it off." My Grandma used to make my shirts out of print flour sacks. those were the days, huh? Kids of today don't appreciate what fashion statements really are. Anyway., I got a pretty good scoop from the die hards" so it was worth the stop. News or not, I sure enjoy reminiscing and laughing with Friends there. Windy was impressed with the meal of Shepherd Pie and hot Gingerbread topped with Lemon Sauce for dessert. He said standby cooks Janice Crystal and Rae Woodard did an outstanding job. Seems our regular cooks and some others slipped out of town with Pres. Glen Smith and Mary headed for Jackpot. Now what the heck do you think anyone would be goin to Jackpot for? , Good Friend, George Padfield (Vice Pres.), conducted in the absence of Glen and it was sure great to have him back with us. Reg Chapman was back too and everyone welcomed Boyd Lewis visiting from Midway. Those who are "high risk" for the flu are usually the same group of people who are at- highest risk for developing pneumonia, which can often lead to death: fivr most people, one dose of pneumonia vaccine provides lasting protection. There is plenty of pneumonia vaccine to go around, llic UDOH encourages this group to seek a pneumonia shot without delay unless they have had a. dose within die last live years. In addition to the vaccination, there arc some simple things you can do lo reduce your chance of getting the flu or pneumonia and or spreading it to those around you. Have you ever noticed, people are changing. Ft one thing they are younger than they used to be when I was their age. On the other hand, people my own age are so much older than I am. I realize that my own generation approaching middle age (to me, that is roughly between 20 and 101), hut there is no reason for my classmates to be senile. Why, I ran into my college roommate the other night and she had changed so much that she didn't even recognize me. I low about that? See you next week.
