Show CITY COUNCIL the board of health bill belna passed the city council met last night in special session mayor dusenberry presiding petition of T E urman and others in relation to draining certain land pome blocks east of the court house was this was the bait of many petitions on the same subject the petition was accompanied by a communication from dr quarantine physician urgently a sanitary point of yiew that immediate action be taken toward a proper drainage of the land in question mr maiben very warmly advocated the taking of steps toward drainage he moved that the committee investigate tho requirements and report at the next meeting of the council same plan for draining the land there acin no second mr farrer moved that the petition be referred to a joint committee consisting of the committees on irrigation and streets and alleys mr maiben feared delay and moved to amend to the effect that these committees be required to report at the nest meeting mr pasman seconded the amendment and wanted something done right away the matter had been before the council for the last ten years at least mr alexander was not in favor of the amendment A was already at work and would boon be ready to report he did not rant to see any rush over the matter mr brown also opposed the amendment mr Mai bensaid the matter had been inder consideration six months and he no guarantee that it would not be mother six months under consideration mr farrer explained the canse of the ue layhe was not personally responsible he was willing for the council to set a time in which to report if the time was not too short mr lean wanted to see the committees make an immediate report the amendment being put there were 4 for and 4 against the mayor gave the casting vote for the amendment the original motion was then put and carried unanimously petition of tho city assessor asking the council to remit or abate the lases of certain indigent persons wag presented the petition was on motion of mr farrer granted the petition for the re of water taxes assessed against certain indigent persons was also granted the report of the city marshal showing that during december there had been twelve arrest collected as fines and thirteen head af stock im pounded was presented and accepted the supervisor reported the purchase of a carload of lumber to the amount of the amount was appropriated mr brown asked that liis motion offered in may last requiring the committee on judiciary with the mayor and city attorney to consider tho expediency of levying a special tax upon those who may be bene fitted by the drainage of the land in the east part of the city be upon at the next meeting of the council this was agreed upon the following claims were allowed marshal and police bill marshal for board of prisoners 3 ENQUIRES co provo L M B co the mayor called attention to a rumor that waa deemed well grounded that besides the case now recovering there were four newly developed cases of diphtheria in this city he dundei stood however that the places where this disease had been put under quarantine regulations by the city physician the marshal stated that the four new cases were progressing favorably every precautionary measure possible was beina taken against the diegas diee as mr alexander referred to ahe uneasiness felt bv some people when the individual who wag employed by the city was seen going around from place to place he thought the should be more prudent marshal turner explained that the attendant referred to wag in the habit of changing his clothing when he went on to the street mr alexander moved that the council proceed with tho furt lier consideration of tho board of health bill the motion prevailed and the bill was read and further amended at the conclusion of the consideration of 28 the bill passed lay the un aua inous vote of the present on motion of alderman alexander the title of the bill was made the title of the ordinance alderman holdaway moved that the committee on public grounds and city property be instructed to confer with the county court at its next sessi cu as to ahr feasibility feas ability of fixing up the east basement of the courthouse for a justices courtroom and report estimates of the cost to the nest meeting of the council the motion prevailed the council then adjourned till saturday january 26 1889 |
