the particulars of the death of the lato WC morris the letter is dated at new york january ath wrote you brother morris being asphyxiated asphyxia ted with gas and told you that wo were doing all we could to revive him well ha had inhaled so much of the poisonous gas that every means failed ind ho finally died at a m sal day morning A brief history of the case is as follows brother morris after spending new years ove with chaz F and family want homo and was admitted to tho house by his landlady at 1 a m on retiring it is supposed that he shut off tha gas and inadvertently turned it on again in the morning tho landlady smelled gas and going to brother morns room found it came from there alio door was immediately broken down and brother morris found in an state breath ia very heavily A doctor was immediately called who did all he could to arousa hira but the poison had done its work and he wae unable to 0 rescome its effects brother wilcox who had invited brother morris to take new years dinner with him waited for him to come and as he failed to do BO went in search of him imagine his horror on reaching his lodging house to find giua unconscious and with strange people working over him brother wilcox immediately wont and consulted prof regarding his condition and was instructed to administer oxygen gas to him with a view of destroying the poisonous carbonic oxide that was so thoroughly into his blood and system this treatment was kept up by brother wilcox all that night and the boxt day until afternoon whan he managed to send word up to 1707 broadway stating his cao to mrs watson and undo john undo john not being home ahn the message came lizzie sent me word immediately dia tely which reached aae about p m wednesday the ad of january I 1 hastily put camy overcoat and hurried over and found brother wilcox nearly exhausted from his long watch over brother morris A few minutes later uncle john came and our first thought was to get a better room chieh we succeeded his tempera tare and respiration we having capt a strict account of it during the whole time changes every hour prof said that we should remove him to the hospital at once as h would then got the very best eare aad treatment possible and everything could bs done there bettor to savo him following his instructions we secured a place for him and an ambulance was set at onca to convey him there on arriving at taa hospital the doctors found that his condition was that it was necessary to bleed him in order to get some of the poisoned blood out of tho system after which were adain admin and internally even this failed to have a favorable result and transfusion of blood was found to be the last resort left in order to try and save him this operation was performed in the presence of brother and myself at p m on thursday jan ad ha seemed to get along all right and I 1 left brother wilcox with him and came home to dinner again I 1 stayed with him till 1030 p m when I 1 left brother wilcox wishing to remain all night with him tha next morning brother wal box reported very unfavorable symptoms that began a m I 1 then remained and brother went nome to lunch aar 1 p m and on returning found that brother morris had developed very unfavorable symptoms and the doctors had a battery there to use in easa of a failure of the heart to act which they feared would occur at any moment it thon became very difficult to got any stimulant down him as his throat seemed paralyzed by the action of the poison on the nerve centers his breathing continued to bo very heavy and more labored and at about 4 p m I 1 thought his lest were at hand se calling a messenger I 1 sent word to brother to come immediately as brother morris was sinking rapidly by the tine he got there brother morris seemed to pass that stage and was resting more quietly I 1 left about p m and brother wilcox and a special nurse were in charge tha next morning I 1 received a dispatch saying that brother morris had passed quietly away we then bagan to make arrangements to ship tho body and are doing all wo can to got it into shape so that when it reaches salt lake he can bo seen by his bereaved family john V has i been more than generous in supply ing all th money and paying all bills and expenses incurred I 1 will now close this letter and hope j his poor family will be comforted by the holy
