Show WOMAN formation of an association at thursdays meeting thursday there was a numerous gathering abc the assembly hall in salt lake city oa the occasion of the meeting convened for the purpose of forming a comans womans Wo mans suffrage association Ere presenta nivea were in attendance from various portions of the territory invitations had been issued to a number of gentiles to be present and take part in the proceedings of these a few were seated in the body of the hall up en the platform were many youn bright and intelligent ladies who appeared to take an especial interest in i the laudable movement which was going forward at two 0 clock the mooting was commenced with tho singing of the hymn by tho congregation know this that every soul is free afterwards a prayer was offered by mrs M I 1 call for tho ing acho text of which was recently published ia the was then read by the secretary with whom at the reporters table mrs E B wella editor of the comans womans exponent and dr E B pratt mrs zina D H young nosic stated the object for which the meeting had baen called and remarked that mrs S richards having been authorized at the last annual convention of the N W S A at washington would organize the comans womans suffrage association for utah territory mrs kioh ards accordingly presided and asked that a secretary bo nominated mrs L D aldor was thereupon appoint od to fill that office and the meeting being in order for actual business mrs M Y douall nominated mrs margarot T caino as president of the comans womans suffrage association of utah tha proposition was by mrs ardello cummings Cumm ingi and unanimously ani adopted the other officers of the organization were elected as follows vice presidents lydia D alder nellie webber aad priscilla jennings eiter secretary cornelia H clayton treasurer margaret dwyer corresponding secretary C I 1 kirby executive committee maria Y dougall chairman ann E groesbeck net tio Y snell julia C taylor jennio bowe subsequently the construction of the national comans womans suffrage association was read and adopted and a committee on bylaws by laws consisting of julia 0 taylor edith knowlton birdie cummings Cum minga and ardelle cum was appointed tho committee retired and while tasy were absent from the room mrs charlotte L kirby delivered an address upon wem ans suffrage sha was followed by mrs zina D H young both addresses were interesting and directed especially to tho object for which the audience wore brought together mrs kirby referred to the great importance of the work in which they had engaged and instanced the great advancement which had beba made in the same direction in great britain and on the continent of europe where comans womans suffrage had worked with good results mrs young spoke on the subject of motherhood and said that the of utah having enjoyed the rights of the suffrage for so many year it was nothing short of a monstrous injustice to deprive them of that privilege the meeting lasted upwards of two hours and was adjourned for one month due notice of the place at which the next meeting will be held will be given by the secretary ary through the medium of the press W understand that the annual tea for membership is 25 cents only having been made thus small in order that as large a number of ladies as possible may be induced to join the association it is fully expected that auxiliary branches of tha association will shortly be established in many places throughout the territory one hundras names were subscribed to tho roll at the close of yesterdays conference aad had timo permitted a larger number could have bean taken any lady desirous of becoming a member of the association may do so by calling at the office of tho comans womans exponent and leaving her name with mrs wells the necessary credentials for the delegates of the W S A to washington will be prepared by the executive committee and signed by the officers of the association |
