Show Region skaters compete in Bountiful BOUNTIFUL It's an Olympic Olym-pic year, and Utah will field the largest and strongest figure skating team ever as it welcomes the 1988 Central Pacific Regional Figure Skating Championships to the Bountiful Recreation Center Nov. -7. The Utah Figure Skating Club is proud to host "Centrals," the first-of-three qualifying competitions that determine U.S. National, World and Olympic teams. Over 150 skaters from Utah, Nevada and Central California will strive to be among the top four finalists in each intermediate through senior event. They will then advance to Pacific Coast Sectionals in Stockton, Calif., in December, and have a shot at U.S. Nationals to be held January in Denver. Local favorite and past Nation al's competitor, Holly Cook, will miss the Bountiful event. Granted a bye, she will be representing the U.S. in international competition in Vienna, Austria. Holly will pick up the competition trail later in Stockton. Utah fans should not miss the excitement. ex-citement. The four-day competition competi-tion will feature freeskating, figures, fi-gures, pairs and dance, plus many non-qualifying events. |
