Show Mabey named to U.S. Judicial Conference of "Nortons Bankruptcy Law Adviser. He heads an American Bar Association Task Force on the Economics of Chapter 1 1 and has CONTINUED ON PAGE 2 w Former U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Ralph R. Mabey has been appointed by the Chief Justice of the United States, William H. Rehnquist, to a three year term on the Advisory Committee on Bankruptcy Bank-ruptcy Rules of the U.S. Judicial Conference. The duties of this committee include in-clude recommending to the U.S. Supreme Court appropriate changes in the rules which govern the operation of the federal bank ruptcy courts nationwide. Mr. Mabey, 43, is a cum laude graduate of the University of Utah. He received his J.D. degree from Columbia University where he was a member of the Board of Editors of the Law Review. He is married to the former Sylvia States and they have four children, Rachel, Elizabeth, Emily and Sara. They reside in Bountiful. Mr. Mabey served as U.S. Bankruptcy Bank-ruptcy Judge for the District of Utah from 1979 to 1983. He is currently cur-rently a partner of the New York-based York-based law firm of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Leiby and MacRae, and is resident in that firm's Salt Lake City office. Recognized nationally as a legal scholar, Mr. Mabey has twice testified testi-fied before Congressional committees commit-tees respecting the federal bankruptcy bank-ruptcy laws. He serves as a contributing contri-buting author to the "Collier" treatise trea-tise on bankruptcy law and formerly for-merly served as managing editor RALPH R. MABEY . Mr. Mabey is an adjunct professor of law at Brigham Young University and has spoken widely on bankruptcy bank-ruptcy law issues. His involvement in the private law practice presently centers on the A.H. Robins pharmaceutical company Chapter 1 1 case in Richmond, Rich-mond, Va. This company faces nearly 200,000 claims by women who may have been injured by the use of the Dalkon Shield IUD. These claims are said to total between be-tween one and seven billion dollars. dol-lars. Mr. Mabey is the' court-appointed court-appointed examiner in that case whose duties include monitoring of the company's operations under the bankruptcy law and acting as a neutral party with respect to negotiations nego-tiations and formulation of a plan of reorganization. Mr. Mabey also served as counsel to the Insurance Commissioner of Indiana in the multi-billion dollar Baldwin-United Baldwin-United Chapter 1 1 case of Cincinnati, Cincin-nati, Ohio. In making the appointment of Mr. Mabey, Chief Justice Rehn-quist Rehn-quist said, "I am confident that you will make a substantial contribution contribu-tion to the work of the Advisory Committee on Bankruptcy Rules..." In response to his appointment, Mr. Mabey said, "I am deeply honored and freely commit com-mit my best efforts to the tasks at hand.
