Show 1 ; r TJIE NEW MUNICIPAL OFFICERS. Last Session of the Old Council and ! Installation of the New One. At the meeting of the City Council last evening there were present besides the regular officials the several gentlemen who were elected recently to succeed the present incumbents, Francis Armstrong, the Mayor-elect, occupying a seat alongside along-side that of Mayor Sharp. - The regular order of business was taken up and the following petitions granted : From Martha Edwards, a widow,in limited lim-ited circumstances, at No. 541 Fourth S. street E., asking remission of her license aa a omall rloalor in morrhanl!art fnr nrta j year. Granted. i . From George Hewlett, asking remission of his license to run a job wagon, on account ac-count of misfortunes and dull times. Laid on the table subject to call. From H. W. West, for transfer of the unexpired portion of his license as retail liquor dealer at the Referee saloon to Mr. H. W. Morse, Jr. Granted. REPORTS. By Adam Speirs, Police Justice, for the month of January, showing that forty-six cases had been tried in the Police Court and four dismissed ; that the, total of fines assessed during the month was $1,382.05, of which $401 was paid in cash, $357.50 in labor, and $623.55 appealed to the upper court. Approved. By the Committee on License, a petition peti-tion of J. H. Freeman for remission of license to peddle fish, etc' Adopted. By the same committee, on petition of Lomax & Carter for rebate on license as restaurant kpenflrs. savincr that tho tafia were as represented and recommending the prayer be granted. Adopted. By the same committee, on petition of M. Goldsticker, asking t remission of license, recommending its remission. Adopted. By the Committee on Claims, on Isaac M. Waddell's bill for searching records, making plots, etc,, of title to City Creek lands, $50, recommending its allowance. Adopted. By- the Committee on Police on the Marshal's report for January and February, Febru-ary, stating that they found his accounts correct, and recommending the appropriation appropri-ation of $601.60 to cover the excess of expenditure. Adopted. By Committee on Canal, on petitions of Daniel Welsh and others, saying that satisfactory arrangements had been made with all excepting two parties : that they did not consider these had any claim upon Salt Lake City. Adopted. By the same committee on petition of S. A. Woolley, Chas. A.. North, M. H. Brady and Oscar B. Young, without recommendation, 5as unfinished business. Accepted. - By the Committee on Irrigation, on petitions pe-titions of S. A. Richards and others, and James D. Van Tassel and others, both in relation to irrigating water rights, back without recommendation as unfinished business. Accepted. By the Committee on Improvements, on petition of A. McRae and others asking ask-ing that the telephone and telegraph poles be placed in the centre of First South street east, and the remonstrance of Bolivar Roberts and others thereto, back without recommendation as unfinished unfin-ished business. Accepted. By Alderman Patrick, chairman of the Committee on Markets, reporting back me pounaiceeper's semi-annual report as unfinished business. Accepted. By Alderman Speirs, chairman of the Committee on Water Works, on petition Of W. T? Jnnoa f on paid on account of extension of water mains, without recommendation, unfinished un-finished business. -Accepted. The petition of James Watson and others, for remission of Mrs. Taylor's city taxes, and of G. F. Parrott, for remission re-mission of his city taxes, which had lain on the table a year or more, were called up and appropriations made to relieve petitioners. Bill of Fred W. Taylor, $50, for. services ser-vices in Assessor and Collector's office, for month ending February 15th, was allowed. Bill of Salt Lake City Gas Company, for lighting, extinguishing and keeping in repair 269 street lamp3 for three months at $37.50 each per annum, $2,521.87; for fa to halls and prison, $316.20 ; total, $2,838.07 less 3 per cent, dividend of February 4th on 782 shares of gas stock ($2,346) $492.07. Allowed. The Recorder here announced that, all business before the Council had been disposed of, and on motion of Councilor J. F . Wells, a fitting series of resolutions were read and adopted, expressing a compliment to the Mayor and other outgoing out-going officials. Mayor Sharp responded in a few words, and Francis Armstrong took the oath of office after filing hi! bond of $5,000, and was escorted to the presiding officer's chair bv the retiring Mayor. " & Recorder Wells administered the oath of office to the new Aldermen, Councilors and other officers, all of whom filed the requisite bonds, and the Council adjourned adjourn-ed for one week. . |
