Crane, of Bingham, arrested i for assault on James Tuckfield with a meat i ax, with intent to commit murder, the last j Fourth of July, was indicted by the Grand Jury and brought before the Third District Court to-day, and pleaded not guilty to the charge. . Bail was fixed at $600. I . "Old Sport" and the Rag Baby Company I will play a return engagement of one night J at the Theatre on the 14th inst. Mr. John A Hooley, the advance agent of the company, I informed the Democrat that this medley of burlesque has had the biggest run in San IFrancisoo for four weeks of anything in the amusement line. The inaugural charity ball of the season ! was given at the Opera House last night, nnder the generous direction of Mrs. Joab i j Lawrence and immediate supervision of Mr. H. T. Duke and others. The number of j j ladies and gentlemen, together with the fine s music, enjoyable dancing and repast, made i the party a social success. , A decree of divorce was granted Mrs. j : Harriett Gray, yesterday, against Peter Ii way, jr., on tue grounds of neglect and de- , ' i! sertion. Mrs. Gray was given the custody of ' j her two small children, Margaret and Er- : nest, together with the household goods. Mr. Gray is obliged to pay all costs and con tribute to the maintenance of his children. The Criterion Club held its annual election elec-tion last evening, when the following Mug-, Mug-, wumps were elected to office: W. Fuller president and G. M Prof. J. H. Paul, vice-president vice-president and assistant G. M.; G. B. Long, secretary and K. of 11. and T.; B. J. Beer, assistant secretary; E. Lousby, treasurer and K. of C. andS.
