Show DIPHTHERIA'S FATAL WORK. Fifteen Cases Now In the City, and more Deaths Added to the List. City quarantine physician Clinton was met this morning and asked the present state of the pervading and devastating diphtheria, fast placing this city in the deepest mourning. The Doctor, stated fifteen cases now existing and two- more deaths added to the season's long list of victims. The little four-year-old child of Mr. S. M. Stenhouse died last night at the residence of Mr. Anthony Godbe, whose six-year-old daughter is now lying critically low. The other death is of a young girl, and occurred in the Eleventh ward Friday night. Two new cases are in the families of Mr. Irwin and Mr. Matthews. A third case exists opposite the Deseret Hospital, in the Sixteenth ward. In view of the terrible mortality from diphtheria in Salt Lake City the past season, and the wide-spreading condition the malady is now assuming, parents are fearfully alarmed at the possible extent the disease may reach, and just cause exists ex-ists for the citizens in general to be extremely ex-tremely precautious in order to avoid further fur-ther spread of the death-dealing plague. |
