Show i "' A-Safe Light for Miners. . An elect ric safety-lamp was exhibited by Mr. J. W. Swan at a late meeting of mining and mechanical engineers at Newcastle, England. The lamp is portable, being fed by a secondary battery, bat-tery, and the whole weighing about six pounds, and is paid to be capable of . giving two or throe times as much light as the ordinary safety-lamp during ten or- twelve hours. The supply of electric energy is readily renewed, and the batteries of se v- eral hundred lamps may be recharged in a few hours by connection with a suitable electric mam. Mr. Swan hopes to ve miners still further security by addition ad-dition of a foul-air detector to the lamp |
