Show I LOCAL JOTS. The chief question to-day is, how long will this weather last? "Hazel Kirke," the great pathetio drama, at the Theatre to-night. The People's Party Ticket is knot hole-ly satisfactory to the orthodox brethren. "The Pirates of Penzance" will have a general rehearsal in the Theatre to-morrow night. The aooount of the Prosecuting Attorney was submitted to the Third District Court this afternoon. Wells, Fargo & Co.'s bullion shipments from Silver Reef for the month of January aggregate $29,307.60. Ike Snyder was fined $25 in the Polioe Court for vagrancy and continued drunkenness, drunken-ness, and was consigned to the chain gang for twenty-five days. Harry World gave bonds to-day and was released from the Pen. Dr. Benedict and J. Q. Leavitt were his bondsmen, and $5C3 the amount of the surety. It is becoming fashionable now in cross- j ing Main street, or in fact any of the streets, to carefully remove one's rubbers and carry them in the hand; it avoids going back after them. If the dry bench people in their commendable commend-able fight for equal privileges with the rest of our citizens should ba compelled to ''take water," they will perform the act with considerable con-siderable grace. Phillip Steinhart was to-day granted an order of the court to attach and sell a mare and colt, the property of the notorious Fanny Davenport. It is not the Herald nightmare, either. Professor Brown, the mind reader, will return to Salt Lake and give another exhibition ex-hibition after his trip to San Francisco and other Western cities, which he expects will take up about six weeks' time. ' Some interesting developments are looked for in the Dement matter when the newspaper news-paper correspondents tell their story to the Committee on Public Lands to-morrow. The colored gentleman in the wood-pile has got to come out, sure. A batch of Police Court appeal cases, which have accumulated in the Third District Dis-trict Court during several years past, were yesterday dismissed by Judge Zane, on mo-f mo-f Hon of City Attorney Richards. G. F. Culmer & Bros, attracted considerable consider-able attention in front of their 6tore last night with an engine head light beautifully illuminated with their Kose Head Light Oil, which they were selling to-day at 25 per cent, discount. Ex-D. S. Surveyor-General Saloman telegraphed tele-graphed General Logan Monday to ascertain ascer-tain whether the alleged statements made bv General Dement, respecting the surveyor-general's oflice here, had been really made. The reply gave assurance to the contrary. con-trary. Articles of incorporation were to-day filed with Secretary Thomas by the Manti Sheep-herding Sheep-herding and Wool-growing Institution, of Sanpete. The capital stock of the company is represented at $7,090, which is divided into Bhares of $10 each. The stock may be increased at any time to $30,030. "J unius" is the nom de plume over which the cranky reporter of the Herald writes communications to his own paper. In this morning's issue he says: "I profess myself a friend to newspaper men in general, but an uncompromising foe to liars without exception." ex-ception." How the poor idiot must hate himself! The reporter of the little church fiddle actually interviewed that "universally respected re-spected young man's relatives to ascertain whether they believed the "fine, stalwart , young man" beat his wife. That reporter should next interview Fred. Hopt to find ont whether a convicted murderer is in favor of capital punishment. The Lewis Morrison Company played two yery successful engagements at Park City, Monday and Tuesday nights, and will conclude con-clude their engagements in the Utah circuit by playing "Hazel Kirke" at the Theatre tonight. to-night. Mr. Morrison plays Dunstan Kirke. The sale of seats has been good, and a first-class first-class house will witness the performance. " ."All statements in regard to his (McMur-rin's) (McMur-rin's) ill-treating his wife are utterly without with-out foundation, as anyone can learn by inquiring in-quiring of Mrs. McMurrin." Deseret News. Yes, and the ridiculous charge that Angus M. Cannon and a good many other pets of the News have more than one wife is maliciously malic-iously false, as can be proved by the several Sisters Cannon and by the testimony under oath of the accused himself. When the inoendiary-haired scribbler of the wife-beater's organ was on the stand in Commissioner McKay's court, he had "for- gotten" where he received the information on which he wrote a two-column article on "A Foul Murder." If he were put upon the stand to deny the statements of the Demo-cei.t Demo-cei.t in regard to the McMurrin wife-beating, his memory would fail him in the same ' Latter-day manner. The Herald has neither ' the merit of consistency nor the shrewdness of lying depravity. If such evidenoe as the Herald adduces to protect the reputation of its pet, young McMurrin, Mc-Murrin, were to be accepted, those persons consigned to the penitentiary for polygamy and unlawful cohabitation have been cruelly and falsely imprisoned. There is scarcely an instance among them all where t he wives have not tacitly or openly denied the facts to shield their husbands, and whore the husbands themselves have not in a manner man-ner repudiated the wives whom formerly they had held out to tho community with joyful satisfaction and without any attempt to hide the facts. We shall next hear of the Herald's ignorant reporter interviewing McMurrin Mc-Murrin as to whether he waylaid Collin with the intent to do him injury. |
