Show Editor Stead in the Witiaess Box. London, November 2. The further hearing hear-ing of evidence in the trial of Stead and the other defendants in the Armstrong abduction abduc-tion case was resumed to day. Mrs. Jarrett was again placed in the witness box, but she persistently declined to make any further revelations respecting the case. Mrs. Josephine Butler and Professor Stuart testified for the defendants. Stead then took the witness stand. He testified that Mrs. Butler told him that he might implicitly im-plicitly trust Mrs. Jarrett, and he had no reason to suspect her of abducting or obtaining ob-taining money from him by false pretenses. His testimony was in substance the same as that given in his statement at the magistrates magis-trates examination. |
