Show . I "SALT LAKE JOURNALISTS." Under the above heading the Omaha Herald of Wednesday last, has the following fol-lowing editorial : Some of the strongest editors in the A est are found in Salt Lake Citv. Amon them are Nicholson of the News, Groo of the Herald, Goodwin of the Tribune, and Alfales oung of the Democrat, who, although al-though last mentioned in the list, is one of the brightest and most promising young journalists in this part of the coun try. But for the angry controversies that largely restrict newspaper debate to one subject in Utah, these men would make a broader mark upon the newspaper life in the West than wras ever made before in any Territory. The Demochat engages Tlie Omaha Herald's special sympathy, for both personal per-sonal and political reasons. In contending contend-ing against Mormon extremists on the one hand, and the aggressive radicals on the other j it is difficult for it to find a footing or secure a hearing on account of the prevailing clangor of hate and unreason. un-reason. . But it is brave and bold, and Democrats who are really Democrats, have no excuse for not granting to such a paper ample sympathy, and equally J ample - support. One thing certainly should be- granted to the Democrat, which is this : It should be given the largest liberty and discretion in the discussions dis-cussions which every Democrat in Salt Lake are aimed at the best good of the people and the party in the Territory. |
