Show FORT DOUGLAS THEATRICALS. Fine Amateur Performance and a Dclifflitfnl nop Last Erenlng-. Fort Douglas, under the present regime, has become famous for its numerous events of pleasure of a social character. Last evening's performance by the "Amateur Theatricals" and the delightful delight-ful hop which followed constituted one of the most enjoyable of these events. The officers of the post had evidently conspired con-spired to make the entertainment outshine all previous ones, and they were apparently appar-ently successful in this. The rendering of "Place Aux Dames," under the management man-agement of Adjutant Groesbeck, was thoroughly enjoyed, and was put on the stage of Recreation Hall in a manner that reflected much credit all around. The piece is a sort of travesty, in which an amusing pot pouri of extremely funny parodies are introduced from standard dramas, and the ingenious arrangement of the dialogue creates any amount of merriment. Mrs. Murdock as Lady Macbeth, Mrs. Newcomb as Ophelia, Miss Rice as Portia, Por-tia, and Miss Hewson as Juliet, all rendered ren-dered their parts in a way which could not fail to insure the success and appreciation appreci-ation of the piece, and the invisible Romeo was not less successful in eliciting the unsparing applause of the enthusias: tic audience. Miss Hewson's Juliet, if we m'ay be permitted to discriminate, was a charming impersonation, and was dressed, as it was acted, in a most admirable admir-able and fascinating style: The young lady is possessed of a wonderfully musical musi-cal and captivating voice, and manifested a freedom and grace of manner which was surprising in a first appearance, and this, with the equally charming accomplishment accomplish-ment of perfect enuniciation, won for her immediate popularity on the stage. The hop had everything to make it delightful a pleasant hall, an excellent floor, the best of music and, not least important, im-portant, a thoroughly sociable gathering; Shortly after 11 o'clock the officers with appreciative gallantry served refreshments, refresh-ments, and these were not a whit behind every other feature of the evening in point of excellence. Dancing was resumed re-sumed and continued till past midnight, and everybody who was fortunate enough to be present left with the consciousness that nothing in the nature of a more delightful de-lightful evening's pleasure could . be imagined.
