Show iT A Narrow Escape For years the officials of Weber countv have generously offered to the authorities of Davis county to bear one half of the expenses of a good wagon bridge across i Weber river between South Weber in I the latter county and Uintah on the U P Railroad line in the former There is at present only a ford through the stream I and this is impassable a large portion of the time thus cutting the people of South Weber from direct communication with the railway station which would afford them a good opportunity to dispose of their produce But the Davis county magnates never yet reciprocated the advances ad-vances of Weber county although their subjects are by far the greater sufferers suffer-ers not only in purse but also in personas person-as came near being the case last week when a dreadful calamity was only narrowly I I nar-rowly averted Aaron Bybee and his wife Aggie accompanied ac-companied by the latters brother Will were going from his fatherinlaws Mr fs John Bowman at South Weber to see some relatives in Uintah They had to cross the river which is pretty high In the middle of the ford the horses stopped suddenly one threw itself over and the wagon and all in it upset Mr Bybee held on to the drowning horses with firm grip while Mr Bowman managed to rescue 1 res-cue his sister out of the surging waters The animals had to be abandoned and I proved a total loss and the three persons I per-sons are thanking Providence for tneir r preservation And all tlis on account of niggardliness and neglect on the part I of a set of incompetent officials |
