Show MORE MEXICAN OUTRAGES Two American Citizens Wrongfully Imprisoned for a Year and Fifteen Days AUSTIN Texas Sept SThe action of Governor Ireland in the Arasueres case is bringing to the public attention the other Mexican outrages upon American citizens A complaint comes from J B Wood and L H Gaskell who allegein substance that in August they were arrested by Mexicans on Lagoana ranch in Lower California Mexico on account of the sudden disappearance disap-pearance of J H Hanson one of their friends who employed them to mind his I cattle and who they say went to San Francisco and did not return at the time of the complainants arrest ar-rest The Mexicans they say began to sell kill and eat Hansons cattle one Mexican even claimed Hansons property It is alleged these Mexicans doubtless Know what has become of Hanson who had much trouble and t been imprisoned for the purpose pur-pose it is asserted of extorting money from him The Mexicans had shot at him several times and once wounded him severely The complainants apprehend that the object of their arrest was to convict them of Hansons murder The Mexicans tried to frighten them so as to make them break jail and flee the country but they would not scare and are still in jail The complainants com-plainants say We have been held one years and fifteen days for no other reason than speculative purposes on the part of thieving Mexicans We have written to our Consul at Lapaz and got two or three letters from him when we first came down here but he will not answer our letters any more and the courts have done nothing in our case The complaint covers fifteen pages of foolscap paper relating the action of the I Mexican courts harsh treatment in jails and the taunts of the Mexicans Hanson left 50000 worth of property in Mexico Governor Gov-ernor Ireland in reply states he is glad to get this statement but that the complainants complain-ants should appeal to the State Department I through the Governor of California in which State they claim legal residence I |
