Show Y M O A The Proposed Organization of a Branch This City A temporary association has already been started to further the proposition of organizing the Young Mens Christian Association in this city Eastern associations asso-ciations propose paying three dollars to every dollar that is raised in our city The business men as well as the young men are taking a deep interest and all are putting up liberally The first twentyfive young men spoken to on the subject came boldly to the front with a liberal contribution of 10 each The proposed building will be furnished with an elegantly fittedup reading room which will be open day and night and free to all A reception room for social intercourse inter-course an assembly room for lectures and evening instructions a gymnasium and bath rooms are also to be well furnished fur-nished and kept up J for the members of the association The place being well heated well lighted and well managed will furnish to our young men delightful evenings as well as good moral influences The reading room will be furnished with all the leading newspapers and periodicals periodi-cals of the day There will bo a salaried secretary to look after the interests of the young men keeping them well supplied sup-plied with good lectures and whose duty it will also be to look up and furnish temporary tem-porary relief to any stranger who may otherwise through necessity be forced to do wrong There are already 3000 Y M C Associations in the world Over 1000 of these are in the United States and furthermore nowhere in America is there a place more in need of such an association than is this city of Salt Lake In conclusion the institution institu-tion is to be unsectarian and under no denominational control |
