Show OITY COUNCIL The Work Done by Oar City Fathers Fath-ers Lat Evening At tho regular weekly meeting of the City Council held last evening the following fol-lowing business was taken up Bishop Tuttle stated that there was a strip of unclaimed land six inches wide between the lot upon which St Marks cathedral stands and the next city lot east and asked that this be deeded to the church Bailey Son asked to be allowed to pile building material on Second South street Granted George Showell stated that he held Surveyor Foxs certificate to Lot 8 Block 7 Salt Lake City survey He had never perfected his title and he now asked that the Mayor issue him a deed Committee I Com-mittee on Public Grounds William Showell made a similar state ment and request with reference to Lot 2 Block 7 which was referred to tho same committee Mary Ann Showell widow of the late John Showell made a similar statement and request regarding Lot 1 Block 7 which was also referred Mrs A Smith asked the privilege of laying a water pipe to her residence on 51 Sixth East street Referred J D H McAllister asked leave to pile building material in front of his residence resi-dence 241 E Fifth South street for sixty days Granted F W Little made a similar request for his residence at 116 Fourth East Granted Jacob Alt Hogle Bros Williams ck Gerrans 0 Youngberg W A Pitt Newman Reed Needham Price ant Henry Wagener were granted licenses a liquor dealers S B Whitehead Co were granted a license as auctioneers Frank McMahon Co applied for a license t carry on a cane racka game of chance Referred to the Mayor and Attorney associated The Supervisor of Streets submitted his report of expenditures for the quarter ending May 31st amounting to 419100 Some debate took place on the price paid the contractor for gravel from Eldredges cellar 30 cants per yard but nothing came of it and the report was referred to the Committee on Streets and Alleys Hon J F Wells drew attention to the condition of street car tracks where they crossed ditches near the drive he moved that the Street Car Company be required to put in suitable flumes at all crossings where their track runs so that vehicles could pass on either side Referred to tho Street Supervisor Mr Cope drew attention to a nuisance in the Nineteenth Ward created by the burning a pie of bones and rubbish near the Glass Works Referred to the Marshal One thousand dollars were appropriated appropri-ated to the contingent fund of the Street Supervisor The Council then went to the consideration consider-ation of the revised ordinances |
