Show UXITEI TO THE FRONT Every unselfishly loyal man in Utah desires that the largest possible number of votes shall be cast for the anti Mormon Mor-mon candidates at the next election By the pursuance of a judicious policy a number of friends of free government can be elected as members of the Coma cil and Assembly and in quite a number of school districts Gentile control can be secured in the Board of Trustees In no Assembly Council or school districthave the loyalists a sufficient majority to elect their men unless nearly the entire strength of that clement can be brought with a united front to the palls While it is certainly a fact that all true Rill loyal men Republicans and Democrats Demo-crats are desirous of uniting in the contest con-test against the common enemy no one but a knave or a fool will asseit that there is no party feeling here to bo reconciled or allayed or who will question the wisdom wis-dom of tho course best calculated to harmonize har-monize the conflicting elements and if possible to make tho political differences a factor of strength instead of weakness That there are such feelings to be reconciled recon-ciled in a contest of this kind is perhaps to be regretted but that such is the fact is nevertheless true and it is worse than folly to ignore a condition of things bearing bear-ing so strongly upon the chances of success suc-cess or defeat It was to bo expected that the morning paper which is more than all other causes responsible for the creation and growth of political division here should discourage all attempts to harmonize matters by such method as has been suggested by THE DEMOCRAT which is the onlyone available to escape the effect of the pernicious work of the Belfconstituted dictator political affairs in Utah If tho Gentile people are wise they will not permit this morning paper and its little clique of obstructionists and marplots to again lead them to inglorious defeat merely to gratify its and their petty ambition to be considered the leaders in another straggling and unsuccessful un-successful charge upon the common enemy en-emy Can any one mention an instance where there will be a loss of a vote to a ticket selected by the representatives ol the two great National partiesbased upon such fair and equitable representation of both as is conceded by all sensible and I unprejudiced persons should be observec I in making the nominations If there cannot he such an instance cited it is perfectly evident that the entire Gentile voto can by this method be consolidated consoli-dated against the Mormon tickets which to all practical persons is the only end to be accomplished On the other hand THE DEMOCRAT has assurances from the most reliable sources many of them from prominent men of unquestionable loyalty expressive of their own intentions inten-tions which justify us in the assertion that nominations made in the manner suggested by the morning paper will result in greater losses to the tickets than compose the Gentile registered regis-tered majorities in my of the precincts in this city Would it not be good sounc sense to adopt the policy which will bring out the largest antiMormon vote |
