Show THE Tribune of this morning has a short editorial on Ocean commerce It says among other things that the cost of Clyde built steamers is so slightly less than American built steamers that a few years ago the agent of an American company preferred to have a couple of steamers for the San Francisco and Ilonolulo trade built by an American firm Pray then why do our shipbuilders ship-builders need such great and mterniil protection Certainly as a nation we are not in swaddling clothes After all it is the carrying trade that is the thing that needs encouragement protection and not our shipbuilders |
