Show S I DEAD IN THE BRUSH i I The Body of au Unknown Man Found Xear Fort Douglas Yesterday I No Marks or Violence and No Clue to His Identity Dead Perhaps a Month and the Body Too Badly Decomposed for I Recognition Yesterday afternoon at 2 oclock Lieutenant Lieu-tenant Groesbeck of Fort Douglas sent word to Coroner George J Taylor that a man had been discovered on the military reservation in a bad state of decompo sition The Coroner immediately sent siton Sexton Taylor for the body of the unknown un-known man which was found about half a mile southwest of the barracks l I IX A CLUMP OP OAK BUSHES I Three rods from an old abandoned road I The body was in a bad state of decomposition I decompo-sition with the features past possible that of laboring recognition I was a lboring and sixty man apparently between fifty years of age five feet and a half in height I and with sandy hair and moustache slightly slight-ly sprinkled with gray The body lay stretched out on the back with the feet about a foot apart and the right arm extended ex-tended The teeth were mostly gone His stoOa shoes were off and near his feet Under his head his coat was rolled up for a pillow and NO SIGNS OF VIOLENCE COULD HE DETECTED The body was taken up and brought to Sexton Taylors deadhouse on East First South street and searched No papers of any description to lead to his identity were found on his person In one pocket was found a buckskin pocket purse containing con-taining twentyfive cents in silver a small piece of tobacco a pair of suspenders were found in the coat pocket along with a couple of half handkerchiefs used for cravats and a red cotton handkerchief with white ree His socks were red woolen and domed with blue yarn His clothing consists of a pair of brown pants and coat a gray woolen shirt and a very good black felt hat None of his clothing was of the government govern-ment make and no clue further than the given facts has been ascertained The body must have lain there for fully one month and it is supposed that it is that of SOME TIREDOUT TRAVELER Who lay down to take a rest and is still enjoying it No one has been missed about Salt Lake very lately and no light has been thrown on the matter from anyone any-one in the city or at the camp The Coroners jury rendered a verdict in accordance with the few known facts of the mysterious case u follows COBONEMH JUlY vERDIcT We find that an unknown man died one half mile southwest of Fort Douglas on the military reservation east of Salt Lake City mital between the 4th day of July and the 10th day of August 18W from causes to tho jury unknown E T TAYLOR JOHN COLEMAN DAVID MULHOLTAND |
