| Show The Cliautnuqun Sunday AHHmnbIJ CHAUTAUQUA N Y August 16There were 8000 persons in attendance at the various departments of the Chautnuqna Assembly Sunday School this morning at 1 oclock in the amphitheatre Rev Charles j F Deems New York delivered the Bacca laureate sermon to the graduating class of the literary and scientific circle for the present year This afternoon the Y M C A platform meeting was held B F Jacobs of Chicago presided and addresses were delivered by Major A C Wright of St Louis J Y Leming of Akron Ohio J Q Gordon of Erie Pa W A Duncan of Syracuse t Sy-racuse N Y Hon Clem Studebaker of South Bend Ind Colonel Hyatt of Pennsylvania Penn-sylvania and Hey A E Dunning of Boston Bos-ton Much interest was manifested and the Chautauqua Y M C A was organized immediately after the meeting with Hon Clem Studebaker of Indiana as president and J Y Leming of Ohio as secretary About two hundred members wero enrolled Chancellor Vincent addressed the Society of Christian Ethics which is composed of young people at 4 oclock At 8 oclock this evening addresses on Aggressive Christian Work were delivered by B F Jacobs of Chicago and Rev Dr Trowbridge of New York The International Sunday School executive ex-ecutive committee has been i session here B F Jacobs several days There were present of Chicago chairman IH Evans of Austin Texas Rev J HBabbet of Swanton Vermont Ver-mont W A Duncan of Syracuse N Y Rev A J Hobbs DD of Louisville E Payson Porter of Chicago was reelected Statistical Secretary for two years Edward G Wheeler of Walla Walla Washington Territory was appointed Secretary for the tenth district including Oregon Idaho Montana Washington Territory Alaska and British Columbia and was instructed in-structed to cooperate with local Sunday school associations in h territory ter-ritory in gathering statistics I was decided de-cided that a series of Sunday school meetings meet-ings be held in th New Eland States in the fall of 1885 a series of rmilar meetings in the Southern States in the winter spring of 188G and another ser i tb Northwestern North-western States in the summer or 1886 I was decided t hold the next annual meeting at Chautauqua on Thursday before Eecogni ton day in 1880 |
