Show I I TIle Advance in Lead During the week lead has presented the I I strongest front of any of the metals and does not exhibit a single element of weak I ness anywhere along the line Buyers throughout the land have fought against the advance most vigorously but their provisions gave out and they have been forced to surrender one by one The situation uation was too much for them After six weeks of waiting and delay in purchasing they have become convinced that they must yield and the result has been higher high-er prices and more liberal sales New York over 1000 tons have been sold at 4 054 10412 f and even a high as 415 and for the deliveries running away into September while at S1 Louis and also at Chicago the price has ruled very strong at 4 and sales have been made of over 800 tons at each point mostly common The short supply of ore is the main cause of the advance ad-vance and as we have before said producers pro-ducers may push their efforts to the extreme ex-treme without any danger of overproduction overproduc-tion since the consumption is rushing ahead and will probably exceed this year any previous record The European price of 125s makes lead cost 485 per 100 pounds duty paid at New York so that there is a liberal margin for a full half cent advance yet Denver Circular |
