Show THE RAILROAD DISASTER A JLadys Account of the Terrible Affuir lUtief Skc Ell led and Injured BUFFALO Sept HMrs J H Sifiel li of Erie Pa a passenger was on her way to Buffalo She arrived here safely this afternoon after-noon In an interview with Mrs Sigel she said u I was in the first coach next to the smoking car The passenger train was a large one and carried a large number of excursionists ex-cursionists as well as regular passengers The first we knew of the collision was a terrific crash like an explosion Nobody was hurt except those in the smoking car The sight was so horrible that I could not look at it Not a single car was thrown i from the track but the smoker was completely com-pletely telescoped It was a mercy that our car was not crushed It was a narrow escape es-cape One young man in the smoker saved himself by dropping on the floor and escaped es-caped with bruises I did not learn the cause of the accident but we were going very slow while the freight was coming at a high rate of speed We were just one coach length off the trestle when the collision occurred oc-curred Some of the wounded taken to different houses and one of the coaches was turned into a hospital In another coach the dead were placed Most of the excursionists remained at Silver Creek intending in-tending to return home The regular passengers pas-sengers for Buffalo and other points came on this afternoon on another tram Following is a corrected list of the killed and injured The killedHenry Huyck aged 20 ISgs ground to a pulp and were amputated on the return train He died this evening Stephen Cuthbertson a prominent merchant his remains were found in a terribly mangled condition H Gebhart of Pittsburg and his son John were found in each others embrace Their bodies were mangled and crushed David Sharp a cripple and his little son were found crushed together Wm W Loomis a wellknown shipbuilder head crushed He was found dead in his seat Jacob Roslatter body crushed almost out of recognition John Feder W F Reynolds Aaron Parkhurst Adriol Holdler John Sel fert John Meyers The injured Samuel Tracy Wm Zum merly Louis Linsley Martin Loflater Archibald Arch-ibald Campbell Charles Schneider Charles Doerrler Joseph Tapper J P Hartington Philo Linton A W Cahoon |
