Show COLES COLLOSSAL CIRCUS A Genuine Treat to the People of Salt Lake and a Generous Response Re-sponse by That People Last night at Coles circus was a scene never to be forgotten by those who witnessed wit-nessed it and doubtless it was also a surprise sur-prise to the management Long before the hour of opening it was evident that the grand procession had done its work favorably as the streets in the neighborhood neighbor-hood of the city of canvases were blocked by the ubiquitous small boy and thousands of people from out of town who bad thrown aside the cares of the day and came enfamille to see the thoroughly i thor-oughly advertised show The approaches ap-proaches were well lighted and the absence of rude jostling of ladies was remarkable and traceable to the great exertions of the gentlemanly men who were stationed all about the entrance Inside the grand menagerie were thousands viewing the rare and costly specimens of birds beasts and other oddities with which its sides were lined all cooped in clean and well kept cages and wonderful to relatefree i from those noxious and sickening pdors so common in other concerns of the same nature The whole of Salt Lake and a good portion of Utah were crowded about I these cages and the remarks and exclamations ex-clamations of those who for the first time saw these wonders were worth the price of admission to hear The various animals ani-mals are fine specimens and afford < a good study of natural history to those who are interested in it Passing into the main circus the sight was one never before witnessed in Salt Lake The great circus with its double ring and stage was highly illuminated showing a dense crowd of men women and children lining its whole circumference and piled back against the sides till it seemed impossible im-possible for more to get in and yet they continued to pour in by the hundreds uutil the great track around the pavilion was crowded and it became necessary to close up the ticket office and turn hun dreds more away from the entrance A noticeable feature was the entire absence I of rough language and impudent remarks by the attaches and much favorable comment was bestowed the management manage-ment by reason of this welcome feature Everyone had a seat such as was paid for and promptly ODL time the bellj was tapped for the grand entree It was grand and wnot allowed to t be overdone TollDwTngcarae1the regU 1 lan programme every art and part just aa advertised and all being of the first order Mediocrity had no place there and all within earshot of the DEMOCRAT were loud in their praises Of course Dr I Carver was the great center point and his act is so truly marvelous as to startle I the oldest circusgoer out of his rut of years and compel admiration The beauty of the whole performance was that no man or woman was guilty of straining after effect All did their busi ness in keeping with its nature and the antics of the clowns were refreshing by I reason of this cause and for the further I reason that they did something new It would be difficult to praise each act I and actor but the best idea of the whole can be gained from the fact that J J never before in the history of Salt Lake II I has a better pleased audience left a circus cir-cus performance Good as were all the I features of the show the act of Carver I and the attack the I on stage coach were alone worth two admissions to witness The management too struck a popular i I chord when they cut prices and when 9000 people responded to the reasonable i demand onethird would not respond to the old style exorbitant prjces The I DEMOCRAT owns to a pleasant surprise in the style and management of the advance work of Coles big show but is wonder fullv surprised and delighted at the show I itself and the honesty and gentility of the I whole outfit It proves that true business principles are necessary to a circus just as much as to any other undertaking I |
