Show AN INTERESTING DAY The Business Done in the Third I District Court I Todays session of the Third District Court was the most interesting one in along a-long time John C Gray was arraigned on a one count indictment for unlawful cohabitation cohabita-tion He entered a plea of guilty evidently evi-dently with the intention of promising to obey the law in the future The Court asked him what were iris intentions as to the future and he said that ha would live with but one wife provided he would be allowed to live with wife No2 The Judge explained that according to the ruling of the Supreme Su-preme Court he must live with the legal wife Gray said that his legal wife was sick and that he had lived with tires tire-s nnd for the last six years After considerable conversation between be-tween the court and thetlefendant Gray was sentenced to serve a term of six months in the Utah Penitentiary and to pay a fine of 50 and costs and to stand committed until fine and costs are paid In the case of the United States vs I William Grether the defendant was arraigned I ar-raigned on a fivecount unlawful cohabitation cohab-itation indictment and entered a plea of not guilty John P Mortensen was then arraigned pu a three count unlawful cohabitation indictment and also entered a plea of not guilty John H Ault wits admitted to citizei ship i Henry W Hawthorne was arraigned on the charge of polygamy and took the statutory two days in which to plead Louis II Mousley was arraigned on a threecount indictment charging him with unlawful cohabitation He entered a plea of not guilty George B Williams cohab was also arraigned on a twocount indictment and entered a plea of not guilty In the case df the people vs Herbert Slade and Duncan McDonald the de fendant Slade entered a plea of not guilty McDonald is at present absent from the Territory but his bondsmen are confident that he will show up before longGeoige George Morrison a petit juror was excused from further service In the mandamus case of P L Wil hams vs Wm M Stewart Le Grand Young entered a demurrer to the affida yjt taking exception certain statements in that document and alleging that certain cer-tain necessary showings were not made The demurrer was argued at length by Mr Young and Mr Williams and had not been concluded at the time our report re-port closed |
