Show TERRITORIAL PLATFORM Platform of the Democratic Party of Idaho Territory The Democrats of Idaho Territory in I convention assembled present the following fol-lowing resolutions and platform and pledge the Democratic party of Idaho and its candidates to their faithful and earnest support and endorsement Resolved That we with becoming pride endorse the Administration of President Grover Cleveland for the honesty frugality and success with which it is conducting the affairs of government carrying out the principles of Democracy in administering public trusts and keeping faith with tho people a respect for constitutional law the protection of the rights of our illow citizens citi-zens at home andabroad a desire to reform the unjust inequalities of customs to reduce taxation to limit the expenditures to actual necessities the revival of trade the increase of commerce the restoration of the unearned un-earned public lands to the peoples heritage the peace that happily extends throughout our whole land and the extinction of sectional I sec-tional animosities are the salient marks I which signalize the restoration of the Democratic Dem-ocratic party to power and the response it has givecl to the trust reposed in it We commend the discrimination which the President has made in favor of the honest soldier and call attention to the fact that while ho has vetoed spurious and unworthy un-worthy claims he has signed more pension bills than any of his predecessors Resolved That the record of Hon John Hailey our able representative at Washington Washing-ton is one of which we as citizens of Idaho are justly proud that Mr Haileys consistent con-sistent course and energetic and successful efforts in behalf oi our Territory and interests inter-ests of her citizens meet with our earnest andonthusiastio approbation and that the thanks of our people are due him for his untiring un-tiring labors for his constituents Resolved That in Edward Stevenson our citizenGovernor Idaho has an honest able and fearless Executive who knows the wishes and wants of the people of this Territory Ter-ritory and who will faithfully enforce the laws without fear or favor Resolved That this convention proudly invites attention to the fact that the last Democratic House of Representatives passed bills forfeiting and restoring to the pnblio domain railway land grants amounting to over 75000000 of acres and also the further fact that in the Fortyeighth Congress the Democratic lower House passed the Reagan InterState Commerce bill which failed of passage in the Republican Senate also that in the last session of Congress the Reagan bill was again passed in the Democratic Demo-cratic lower House Resolved That we denounce the infamous practice of bigamy polygamy and unlawful cohabitation and that we pledge our party to a strict and rigid enforcement of the laws against such crimes and as a proof of our sincerity we point with pride to the record of convictions had by a Democratic United States Attorney before a Democratic judge during the past year of a Democratic national na-tional administration which speaks louder than the windy professions unaccompanied by any performances of any past Republican Republi-can officers in Idaho Resolved That we are until terably opposed to any dictation in State or political affairs bl church domination as heretofore exercised exer-cised by the Mormon Church Resolved That we are unalterably opposed to Chinese immigration and demand the abrogation of the BurlingameSwift treaty a legacy from the Republican party through whose loopholes slave labor creeps upon our shores We pledge the best efforts of the Democratic party of this Territory in favor of measures which shall permanently prohibit and prevent such immigration Were We-re ard Chinese labor as an unmixed evil therefore we favor legislation providing for the deportation of the Chinese from this country and their exclusion forever In the meantime pending proper legislation upon this subject the Democratic party of Idaho as a friend of free labor and in the interest of the people recognize the legal right of any citizen to employ whom he pleases yet we hold it in the right and duty of the people of Idaho Territory to withhold with-hold their patronage from the Chinese and that such labor should not be resorted to when other character of labor is available Resolved That this convention is in favor ofan act of Congress providing for the free coinage of both gold and silver by the terms which act both gold and silver bullion offered at the several mints and assay offices of the United States shall be received in exchange for gold or silver coin or certificates at the rate now fixed by law for standard dollars of gold and silver which certificates shall be receivable for all public purposes and interchangeable for gold or silver as the case may be and that there be no discrimination discrim-ination by United States Treasury officials in the use of gold and silverfor any purpose whatever consistent with existing laws including in-cluding the payment of the interestbearing debtResolved That we are in favor of liberal wages and free labor All associations formed for the purpose of developing intelligence promoting the welfare wel-fare and protecting the interests of the laborers and mechanics and to enable them successfully to contend for and maintain their rights by peaceful and efficient means against powerful and oppressive combinations combina-tions should be encouraged and expressly sanctioned by law Resolved That we are opposed to the oppressive op-pressive monopolies built up fostered and protected by Republican Administrations that we recognize labor as the producer of capital that we recommend the passage of such laws as will make the wage laborers preferred creditors and to secure to them the full fruits of their labor Resolved That the rapid increase of the white population of the United States demands de-mands that Congrew take speedy and effective steps to have all of the Indians the select lands in severalty in quantities not to exceed eighty acres per capita within the limits of their respective Indian reservations and that the remainder of the lands on such Indian reservations should be restored to the public domain subject to homestead entry by actual settlers Resolved That it is the duty of the Congress Con-gress of the United States to pass such legislation leg-islation as will guarantee the speedy adjust ment and payment of all claims for depredations depre-dations committed by Indians upon the persons and property of citizens of the Western Stdtes and Territories Resolved That we extend our sympathy to all people struggling to engraft upon their political system the principles of individual I in-dividual liberty and selfgovernment and with special emphasis do we extend that i sympathy to the present heroic efforts of the Irish people ResolvedXh8t we deeply sympathize with the loyal people of Utah in their struggle to maintain the supremacy of the laws of the United States and the purity of American homes and we hereby pledge the best efforts ef-forts of the Democracy of Idaho inaid of such legislation by the national Congress as i will most speedily and forever paralyze the 1 priestly hand that would seek to bind the souls of men by usurping their political liberties lib-erties Resolved That in addition to the foregoing forego-ing we reaffirm the principles and policy as enunciated in the platform the Democrat io National
