Show DEMOCRATIC PROSPERITY With each recurring blast upon the Republican buglehorn the Democratic press is called upon to nail the perversions perver-sions of truth made by the speakers of the Republican party and the round of denial and disproving is becoming monotonous mo-notonous Blaine and Senator Sherman both in their recent attacks upon the Administration placed suds sliest upon the decaying condition of business and trade in general throughout the country owing to tho Democratic Administration i Administra-tion that people who read their statements state-ments and see no contradiction are liable I to believe them We refer our renders to the report of firadst Bradstreets in our telegraph columns today for a full re r juumuu < IL these mendacious statements made by these men on the stump and we feel that their conviction is so certain that wo will not attempt comment here To show that the same feelings actuate the Eastern press in this matter we clip the following editorial from the Cleveland PlainDealer of a recent date believing its argument fully and thoroughly covers the ground in II question For why I should any good citizen vote the Repub I heats ticket this year What can ho I poas hlr expect to gain Y is not every thing so far as the Democrats are concerned con-cerned with it going along as it ought Has not the Democratic Administration answered every expectation Is not the country prosperous Have we not made u great gain since the last year of a Republican Re-publican President Who then wants to change Who wants to put the country coun-try back to where it was three years ago when half tho mills of the country were idle and thousands of men and women were out of work Let us present a few facts The first is an Associated Press dispatch found in tho newspapers of yesterday as follows l irrcraiiuao ra Oct 23This city is ex periencing nn industrial revival just now which is crowing greater every day From talks With half a hundred manufacturers of iron steel glass and coke today it was do i veloped that the mills factories and ovens are running to their fullest capacity and in many instances orders ore ahead for months I of steady work A little item like that is worth more than whole reams of campaign oratory It tells its own eloquent tale It shows the condition of the country under Democratic Demo-cratic rule Was it so when Arthur was President Was it so three years ago 1 Then why go back Why not vote to sustain the party that has done this I But we quote again from the New York 1 Mail and Express a Republican paper That the railroad business through the country is booming is abundantly clear The regular reports railroad earnings indicate in-dicate all that is neccsoary to establish this I fact imd it is strengthened by the immense amount or railroad building now in progress in the Southwest and gress Northwest The car shops are running on full time for the first period in several years and the situation t situa-tion is still further illustrated by the number num-ber of large and expensive railroad bridges j projected all over the country What does that mean Work in the I iron mills work in the steel mills work in the mines work In all the thousand 1 enterprises dependent upon these industries indus-tries j who wants to vote down a party that has brought about so great prosperity pros-perity Who wants to put the country back where it was three four or five I years ago But we quote again this i time from the American Grocer which is not a political paper I The anthracite coal output up to the latest date was 23838145 tons showing again a-gain over the corresponding time of last year of 682038 tons The earnings of sixtyeight railways for tho first nine months of the year show an increase over 1885 of 87 per cent and 12 per oent oer 1884 The receipts of customs during the month of September show a gain over Sep tember 1885 of 780790 Tho decrease of the national debt during September was 10627013 The bank exchanges of the leading cities show a gain in September over the same I month last year of 222 per cent for the I nine months of 1886 249 per cent over 1885The The receipts of wheat for twelve weeks to October 2d in the northwest were larger than for the same time in any previous year reaching a total of 38249662 bushels against 20i5326 bushels for the same time in IBB The exports of wheat during the month I of September were 6984378 bushels more than for the same month last year and for the three months ended September 30 18 080394 bushels more while the exports of flour for the quarter Bhnw an increase of 1003814 barrels reducing which to its equivalent in wheat makes a total gain in three months of 22597557 bushels in itself sefBoient to set in motion all the wheels of trade and commerce The shipments of refined oil from this port New York from tho first of January last to October 2 amounted to 377095316 barrels while for the corresponding period in 1885 the shipments were 369023356 barrels bar-rels showing increase of 8071960 barrels in favor of the present year These are convincing figures and we might fill columns with them For instance in-stance the manufacture of pig iron for the first nine months of 1886 was 4101907 tons against 3300342 tons for the same time in 1885 an increase of 321565 tons The value of wheat exported in 1886 has risen to 8905556 from 3155142 in 1885 The number of manufacturing establishments es-tablishments in Ohio has increased from 20595 in 1880 to 31038 in 1886 with a corresponding increase in value of products prod-ucts and the number of men employed There is no intelligent voter there is no intelligent i workingman but knows that the condition of the country is better now than it has been for years Business is better trade is better wages are better and there is work for all The outlook is I lull or encouragement and the prosperity seems solid and substantial When the intelligent voter comes to vote let him think of these things Let him consider whether he ought not as a good citizen vote against any change and whether he ought not to sustain by his vote the party under whose wise and careful management this prosperity has come to pass If he does so we do not fear but he will cast his vote for the Democratic candidates as being a good i and patriotic citizen desiring only the welfare of the country and the prosperity of the people he ought to do |
