Show AN ORIGINAL SILVER MAN i Colonel W M Ferry the Democratic nominee for Delegate to Congress was the first person in the United States to introduce a resolution in a political convention con-vention in favor of silver coinage In the Democratic State Convention in Michigan in 1876 he introduced a resolution instructing I in-structing the dele ates to the National Convention to favor as a part of the platform plat-form a plank denouncing the act by which silver was fraudulently demonetized demone-tized In arguing its adoption Colonel I Ferry predicted that in less than ten rears the question of silver coinage would rank in importance import-ance second to no other issue before the country This was before ho was interested in-terested in silver mining or supposed that ho ever would be and his early action in the matter is proof not only of his political politi-cal sagacity but of his personal disinterestedness disinter-estedness in taking a 1 position upon the right side of question of such paramount importance to the loyal people of this Territory If he can be elected he will prove of greatservice not only to Utah but to the entire silver producing sections of the Union |
