Show THE FOURTH AT SYRACUSE Aim Auspicious Inauguration of that Stupendous Establishment Special Correspondence TIE DEMOCRAT This much spokcnof pleasure bathing and saltproducing resort of Messrs D C Adams of Salt Lake and F J Kiesel of our city was the principal attraction for Ogdunites and many others on Independence Independ-ence Day About 3000 people visited the place threefourths from the Junction City and other points in Weber county besides people from settlements in Davis County as evinced by the almost interminable string of farm wagons and other country rigs But Salt Luke City notwithstanding her numerous other attractions at-tractions also furnished a large contingent conting-ent Which was engineered up and downtime down-time road on three trips by J M Cahoon while the veteran George Chugg was the presiding and protecting genius on the lour trains which went betWf en Ogden and Syracuse On no one of those un prccedentedly hea loaded trains an accident ac-cident occurred j Among the thousands of people assembled j assem-bled under the verdurous shelter of the umbrageous grove and on the briny brink j of the saline surf I noticed many of our distinguished and noted citizens such as Mayor D Eccles Wm Driver George W Driver Dr A S Condon Thomas W Jones It A Wells George H Tribe John Keck M Buchmiller Claud Flowers Flow-ers L R Rogers E W Exum C A Eklund W Funge J 0 Stephens G W Harris W I Wright E BMason I Barney libbles I W Funnel J Thompson I John Rowland Matt Hinchcliff I BI Steele J P Jones J F Burton and many others too numerous to mention I Salt Lake City Hooper Slaterville Connne Farmington Kaysville and I other leading communities were commensurately com-mensurately represented for the event was generally recognized a one of great interest and importance inasmuch as by the inauguration of Syracuse bathing resort there is furnished and opened to the people of the northwestern shore of the Salt Lake a better and cheaper opportunity op-portunity than they have had yet in enjoying en-joying the salubrious influences of that lacustrine hearth of health The day was beautiful though hot I was bright But the heat was agreeably tempered by the cooling shades of the youthful but most promising grove of sylvan growth And the Weber canyon breeze ever soft y but cooly blew as did the atmospheric agitation from the saline surface The Sixth Ward Brass Band of Salt Lake City also blew and the people danced under the leafy canopy of the wellfloored howery To their lively tunes a great time was indulged in the tripping of the light fantastic toe until genth Lunas silvery face had vanished from the starry dias of the cerulean July firmament Sports of various kinds were indulged in There was a baseball bout between the Salt Lake Band and the firemen the former beating in threo innings by 19 to 11 1 Jack Greenwcll won both in a footrace at 60 yards and in a jumping joust proving prov-ing the superiority of Ogden muscle and flexibility fexibity In honor to the management of which J J Clayton was the principal soul it must be i sorted that notwithstanding I the enormous multitudes there was not the least disturbance r the utmost good order prevailed to time universal pleasure of all who enjoyed one anothers association But the principal enjoyment of most who took in this first of January I mean Fourth of July at the Syracuse resort was the bathing which was unanimously declared to be immense not to be beaten anywhere between or outside of the trop ic The bathhouses though only recently re-cently established and consequently in I the embryotic state of incipiency are as good as any others on the Lake and the beach and bottom arc delightful Remember this is only a beginning a recent and hurried one but it is fully pregnant with assurances of great suc cecs I |
