Show fv i i BOUNTIFUL i There was a Democratic meeting at Bountiful last evening which was well 1 attended there being present Home four or five hundred people While much of i L the doctrine taught was doubtless new to many in the audience still the audience listened attentively and respectfully To Mr Stoker the Democrats are indebted for the use of the Central SchoolHouse School-House and that was filled to its I utmost capacity while there were as many on the outside as on the inside One noticeable feature was the presence of 1 I PSO many ladies There was some little interruption of the speakers but not r enough to amount to anything The chief topics discussed were the foundation of the Democratic party and the parties I that had been opposed to it Mr Sheeks related the history of all these parties and told how the Democratic party had outlived them all because that party was founded upon principles of eternal liberty lie then went on to discuss the local issues and to many who were present his comments com-ments upon the condition of affairs here and the cause of the present unhappy condition of this Territory must have seemed strange indeed The other speakers followed in much the same strain and the facts in regard to Utah were told as they are and as one of the speakers said in speaking of the advice given to young and old men in the community that if they had all followed counsel they would all have been in the Penitentiary or at least the officers of the law would have been after them The statement raised some commotion but was finally accepted as true The meeting at Brintons was of much the same nature and the school trustees there were very kind and courteous courte-ous to those Democrats who spoke there There the school house was filled arid the audience respectful Theso meetings are having one salutary effect at least and that is to cause the people to reflect and the great fact has already been impressed upon their minds that the Peoples party have not had the decency to go into the field and ask them for their suffrages and support and that that party deems it their inalienable I I I right demand that thepeople vote their ticket The Peoples parly is treating treat-ing the voters as though they were but so many machines to be set in motion on election day at the bidding of soMe boss The Peoples party has declined de-clined to uphold its principles to the people peo-ple or to condemn those of the party opposed to them but has relied upon authority and not upon reason to win the election It has ignored the voters but das fawned at the feet of its masters and has asked what is their will that their bidding may be done We tell the Peoples party now that it makes a grave mistake by ignoring the peopleand the issues of the day But its blunders have been in aid of the cause of Democracy < and for this we give it thanks JThcjre was one incident at Bountiful that is worthy of note The Democrats endeavored to obtain the Liberal schoolhouse 1 school-house in which to hold their meeting I This they were unable to do as the gentleman gen-tleman who has charge of it a Mr Peebles refused to allow it to be used bv Tj the Democrats saying he was opposed to the Democratic movement It is needless to sayjthat Mr Peebles Republican and fieHDemocrats who held a meeting at Bountiful last evening are undor obligations 1 obliga-tions to a member of the Peoples party I Mr Stoker for the use of the Central I School House Apparently all the oppo 11 ffsition to Democracy in Utah does not como from the Peoples party I I I I |
