Show I London Aristocrats Flooded Out LONDON June 9 Great damage was caused last night in the most aristocratic portion of London by tho bursting of a sewer which had been overstrained by the recent storms Scores of houses in the west end have their basements flooded There are three feet of water in many fashionable stores and the barracks of the guards are seriously damaged The new residence of United States Minister Phelps at 31 Lowndes Square is flooded as is the residence of the Earl of Kimberly Secretary of State for India at 35 Lowndes Square The House of Lords was startled by the arrival of a courier sent to inform Lord Kimberly that it was impossible to prepare dinner as the basement was flooded Many of the Peers hurried to their homes and a score of them found their residences in a similar plight |
