Gov-ernments duty to consider whether such a course would NOT BE WRONG TO THE COUNTBY A financial modus vivendi might easily be arranged abandoning the increase in the duties on flour and spirits without leaving Childers a larger deficit to carry forward to the next budget than would have been the case if the eleven millions of the vote of credit had been spent instead of only nine millions LONDON June 9The Standard in an editorial says We cannot believe that the Ministers will leaveoffice They have DECEIVED A MORTAL STRoKE But they must whether they like it or not agree to linger on until the general election This very blunder renders them indispensable indispensa-ble Everything is unfinished and hangs in suspense If the Conservatives are to rule they must have a majority for which they must look to their constituents An election now is impossible The Government CANNOT RETRIEVE THEm LOSS But can at any rate prove themselves conscious con-scious of their duties to the country by struggling manfully in their painful position posi-tion Party lifemust remain in suspense until the election THE CABINET IN SESSION LONDON June 9The Cabinet counsel convened at noon and was in session until 115 oclock It is understood the situation was thoroughly discussed and it was decided de-cided that in view of the defeat last night on the budget it would be inconsistent for members of the Cabinet to remain longer in office and it was resolved that their resignations resig-nations be tendered to the Queen at once This decision of the Cabinet caused A FEVERISH rEELING ON TICK
