Show I Financial Centralization NEW YOBK March 9The Evening Post in its financial article says the attention of the street and the general public has been concentrated upon the progress of the scheme for amalgamation of half dozen great railroad properties under the control of the Richmond terminal syndicate with so much skepticism about its success suc-cess that even when it was openly and positively stated by numbers of the syndicate syndi-cate that they had acquired control of the Baltimore I Ohio Speculators and other apparently waited for further developo ments to show the extent of the whole scheme before taking much interest in the market The prevailing belief is that a settlement of the telegraph war will be one of the results The Richmond Terminal organization acknowledged that the Baltimore Balti-more Ohio would like to part with its telegraph property in the present state of the war Alfred Tully was applied to to by a reporter of the Evening Post today for some statement in regard to the oircumstantial reports that the gydioate i represented fcyhim had virtually concluded the negotiation with Garrett of thE Baltimore I Balti-more Ohio for the purchase of the controlling interest in that road and I its dependencias Sully said ho preferred pre-ferred to say nothing until he could ttate something definite and that he was not yet in a position to do so The reporter then remarked that he supposed sup-posed the fact of the purchase was not denied de-nied Sully admitted that this was pretty well understood The combination would control all bituminous coal territory exceyt that covered by the Buffalo Rochester and Pittsburg It understood that negotiationsof some kind are on foot for the control of the latter road also It is supposed that the capitalists interested in-terested in the Adams Express Company are among the backers of the Sully party with a view of acquiring control of the Baltimore tt Ohio express business as they have acquired that of the Reading As to the Baltimore Ohio telegraph tune the syndicate will be in position to make terms with the Western West-ern UnionCompany if they find this to be to their interest Mr Sully was not prepared to announce the names of the parties concerned or the terms of the agreement It was reported oIl the street today that the price paid by the syndicate for the Baltimore Ohio stock was 225 but a wellinformed and prominent banker said he had reason to believe be-lieve it was not over two hundred A leading lead-ing bank president in commenting on the importance of the reported sale said the railroads represented in the purchasing or in harmony with them would have control of all the anthracite coal territory in the country Alfred Sully is understood to represent the interests of Corbin The Reading Pennsylvania Penn-sylvania Jersey Central and New York Central Cen-tral are understood to be parties to the deal A prominent broker remarked today that the new syndicate would represent the New York Central Erie Pennsylvania Central md Reading and Jersey roads and that these would command all the business joining into New York In connection con-nection with the Richmond Terminal and East Tennessse Virginia k Georgia roads the new system would have control of nearly ill the seacoast lines from New York to Florida in connection with which will be the Indianapolis Bloomington Western railroad and the subsequent absorption by that road of the Ohio Southern I |
