Show Bruins earn the split and help to defeat bigger opponent Zac Zap Hodge Sports Reporter This past weekend the Bruin volleyball team took on the two top ranked teams in the country They earned the split there but helped in the fight to find a cure for a much bigger opponent On Friday the Bruins held their second annual Dig Pink night The Bruins wore pink shirts during warm-ups warm as well as pink accessories during the game Even the athletic department fellow college students and the opponents coaching staff got in inon inon inon on the pink action All proceeds from the night went to the Side Side- Out Foundation Each of us found sponsors that w would uld g give ve us money for each dig and kill said sophomore Whitney Nilson The Bruins had overwhelming support as they had their best crowd to date An estimated fans came out to check out the Bruins at the Lifetime Activity Center at Taylorsville Redwood Campus Many came for the party and entertainment before the game It turned out that the thereal thereal thereal real entertainment came from the game The Bruins went up against their rivals to the north the Golden Eagles of the College of Southern Idaho The Bruins dropped that game three sets to two had played the E Eagles two times before Friday night each wining one match The Bruins came out a little slow and fell behind early against the Eagles The Eagles took an early point five-point lead and never let go of it earning the first set win 25 The Bruins were led by freshmen Erika Charry and Whitney Nilson Charry totaled four kills and Nilson had three In game two it was a mirror image of game one except it was the Bruins had the point five-point lead for much of the game They were able to even up the sets as th they y took game two 25 The Bruins turned around their erratic play from set one and had only four errors in set two They also upped their kills total for game two to 18 from nine in game one Heading into intermission and had nearly id identical stats each having 27 Take one Lose one Continued on takes one and loses one Continued from Al kills 25 assists and six six serving errors The Eagles had two more hitting errors putting them at 11 Coming out of the locker room the Bruins were hopeful to come out and take the early lead again It wasn't meant to be The Eagles came out and played their best set to date fate Earning the win 2518 2518 2518 25 18 and taking the two set to toone toone toone one advantage The Eagles had 13 kills in set three compared to the nine of the Bruins At this juncture the fans were waiting for something to happen to tear the roof off of the Lifetime Activity Center That is exactly what they got It was great having the student body here It makes us us' us want to work harder said freshman Shelbi Once again the Bruins fell behind early The serving of Ame Arne White and Havens brought the Bruins back to give them the win inset in inset inset set four 25 The Bruins played their best defensive set of the night giving up only seven kills and forcing the Eagles into eight hitting errors The Bruins were feeling great and ready to finish off the Eagles heading into set five But the Eagles weren't having any of it The Bruins came out flat and seemed as though their bubble had burst since the change over The Eagles completely dominated the Bruins from the get go and walking out with the 7 15 fifth set win Once again it was the Bruins lack of consistence that led to the downfall as they had four kills and six hitting errors in set five For the match who had 12 kills led the Bruins Nilson and arid E.
