Show Bronze medals awarded to culinary competitors Rana Contributing writer In the lobby of the Hilton downtown were several tired and wary students waiting as judges critiqued their hard work behind closed doors The Beehive Chapter of the American Culinary Federation held a cooking competition for students and professionals held Saturday Nov 11 at the Hilton downtown Some of the 27 categories students competed in was presenting a cakes appetizer plates and anda a hot food category Culinary Arts students spent the last month preparing for the competition Many students d 1 1 L at ui school with Willi their instructor until 1 30 am a.m. putting the finishing touches on cakes and platters Three judges from California critiqued the students' students work The lead judge Certified Executive Chef Jill Bosich has been named the coach for American Culinary Olympics Team Utah has a tremendous amount of culinary talent said Bosich Less stressful l than I thought it would be said Devin student His mother might beg to di differ as she stayed up with him all night washing his dishes Five students competed in the hot food category which they only had an hour to serve four entrees using duck as the main ingredients Some of the skills that are assessed are cutting up the duck how howit it is prepared and sanitation during the competition Competitors do not compete against each other but rather they compete against the standards so every competitor could win wina a gold medal However at this competition only eight competitors won von won bronze medals with no gold or Lu silver silver given out OUI a There are no winners only people who score high enough to be awarded medals on various l levels vels said Wendy Hunter competition chairperson Love Lave doing competitions If its it's stressful Ill I'll do it said the student from know only as Rolli Roll Awards were announced Saturday night at the Presidents President's Ball for the Beehive Chapter of the American Culinary Federation JF yX f s' s lfF i Photo by Rana Culinary Arts I |
