| Show No parking sticker expect fines Cassie i. i Newman Contributing writer Redwood Campus parking enforcement began issuing tickets for forthe forthe forthe the Fall semester on Aug 7 to to students without parking permits Parking enforcement gave students a week two-week grace period to allow students enough time to become familiar with campus and purchase a parking pass During this grace period parking authorities still issued citations for students illegally next to red curbs at expired meters or in designated faculty areas A common misunderstanding of many new students is whether they are allowed to park in areas where the stalls are painted in blue Blue lined parking stalls are are r reserved specifically for faculty and staffs only all others parking in these stalls are subject to parking tickets Students will receive citations if they are found i rI k i Y t Ea EaI r I if v 0 fc f 7 iI i- i File Photo After a week two I grace period Parking Services will be issuing tickets to vehicles without fall stickers parking in these areas During the 05 school year alone parking enforcement issued a total of citations Of this amount 2800 were warnings and an additional were voided by parking authorities This still resulted in approximately citations that were issued as a result of parking violations During the first week after the ticket has been issued the individual must pay 10 However if the ticket is not reconciled within this time period the fine doubles in price For those interested in doing the math tickets at 10 a piece would generate That is isif isif isif if every student were to pay their ticket within the first week 90 percent of the money is put back into parking for the reconstruction lighting snow removal campus safety officers and to help pay some of the staff working in the parking office said Shane Crabtree director of Parking and Security Services J Robert Rober Kitchen a student at the Redwood R Redwood wood campus campus learned the hard way when his fine was double by the time he went to pay for his I ticket I received a parking Ticket Continued on Page 3 1 10 Ticket for ho no no pass Continued from Page 1 I ticket during New Student Orientation back in July Obviously I had no permit but I feel that since I was parking for one day to participate in the school i supported New Student Orientation the parking authorities should take such things into consideration said Kitchen Although Kitchen was upset about the fine he did not elect to appeal the ticket with the parking authority If a student wants to appeal a ticket that they have received they must first fill out a handwritten appeal describing the situation The hand written appeal forms are located in the Automotive Trades building near the Parking Enforcement Office A student should still pay the fine within seven days and if the appeal is approved by the parking authority the student will be refunded back their money However if the appeal is denied the student has the right to appeal the ticket for a second and final time A second appeal allows the student to personally dispute the ticket in front of ofa a jury The jury consists of a police officer a member of the faculty and two or three chosen student senators The second appeal hearings are held the first Monday of each month Parking Enforcement issues tickets Monday through Thursday from 7 am a.m. to 8 pm p.m. and Fridays 7 am a.m. to 4 pm p.m. Tickets are not issued on Saturday or Sunday For students that still need to purchase a parking permit for the Fall 06 semester permits are available at the Library building at the information desk as well as at the Parking Service offices offices' and the Courtesy Desk in the Student Center |
