Show Matrix Revolutions Oh well they tried Allen Johnson Staff Writer I agree that the expectations of the sequels following the first Matrix proved a huge and almost impossible undertaking for the brothers Matrix Reloaded was generally viewed as a huge let-down let and not without without without with with- out good reason So the big question was Will Revolutions fix it all The answer is no- no not entirely This final chapter of the Matrix trilogy continues with the machines attack on the underground underground underground under under- ground Zion Heres Here's the good and the bad Good There are some fantastic fantas fantas- tic action sequences The most notable being the Sentinel invasion invasion invasion inva inva- sion of Zion Some good ideas were used and the visual effects were great for the most part I do feel that a lot of noise and visual flurry on screen did provide some what of a cover up though There is a Shootout very reminiscent reminiscent reminiscent cent of the lobby scene from the fist Matrix- Matrix only this one included ed walking on the ceiling as well There is some good fun in the Neo vs Smith brawl though I didn't like the ending Visually I and from an action standpoint there is some great meat to chew chewon on here Finally I must praise Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith Thought the entire series he is the only one that has shown any kind of levels in his acting abili abili- ty Every other character is of the exact same temperament as the first moment they appeared on screen Weaving ironically brought the only real human element element element ele ele- ele- ele ment even though he is portraying portraying portraying portray portray- ing the personification of a computer computer computer com com- puter program He had some tedious dialogue to wade through but was able to make it somewhat bearable Bad First of all let me state that I still have a lot of questions in my mind about what I feel are holes in the story Granted the answers might be hidden deep in inthe inthe inthe the philosophical layers of Matrix theology but Im I'm just not willing commit that kind of time j thinking about this movie Ill I'll leave that to the in the chat rooms With that I feel there are a lot of holes in the story Im I'm not sure if the brothers expected us to just accept everything everything everything every every- thing they were feeding us but to tome tome tome me some of it tasted funny I had hoped that we had seen the last of long tedious monologues and pointless rave scenes- scenes I was wrong Granted they were much shorter in Revolutions but equally unnecessary Whereas I praised Hugo Weaving as having nice progression for his character charac charac- ter I must chide the others for not achieving this I did not feel we were watching humans Ironically most of them act ab about ut as robotic as the machines they are fighting I wasn't expecting Oscar performances out of nf them tn that t V t J VI M. M 7 J J I U L O OJ J 1 w g O f LUUL wouldn't make me cringe Oh well they tried It will be interesting to see how this series as a whole is viewed 1015 20 years down the theline theline theline line after all the hype is over and andall andall andall all the t-shirts t and are gathering dust on the shelves at DI I give it an E for effort I must confess though- though as I was sitting there watching the end credits roll I couldn't help but think that I doubt this will be the thelast thelast thelast last we see of Neo O |
