| Show The Edge Brings the Bear out of Hopkins Baldwin By Eric Bresee S E orts arts E Fritter tor Anthony Hopkins portrays a arich arich arich rich old know-it-all know while Alec Baldwin plays a pretty-boy pretty fashion photographer in the new film The Edge Charles Morse Hopkins is married married married mar mar- ried to model Mickey Morse Elle Elie MacPherson who has a personal photographer Bob Green Baldwin The three along with Greens Green's assistant Stephen Harold travel to the Great White North for an on location shoot In Inthe Inthe Inthe the lodge Morses Morse's vast knowledge is exposed while Green and Mickey begin work on the photo shoot Halfway through the shoot Green does not feel he has the right shots He sees a picture of some guy and feels he is whom he needs for his pictures Green asks where this guy is and how long it will take to get to him Eventually Morse Green and Stephen take a hydroplane to the remote lodge However they never make it During the flight the plane runs into a flock of birds The birds damage damage damage dam dam- age the plane enough so it crashes into a frigid lake Everyone but the pilot survives the crash and the freezing water Once the three get to the shore Green and Stephen begin to wonder whether they are going to survive until they get gel rescued Morse informs them most people die in the woods from shame wondering how this could happen and why this happened Morse then leads them on a hike to get to where the rescuers will find them Unfortunately he leads them in a big circle that infuriates Green Once they set up camp the adventure begins It begins to rain in the middle of the night waking up the three Then the enemy appears A huge brown Kodiak bear begins to stalk the trio Unfortunately the trio gets cut to a duo as the bear has a late dinner A bulk of the film concentrates on the duo running from the bear and wondering how to return to their loved ones The first half of the film is slow The most action in the first half of the film occurs in the previews The first half is full of scenes that do not affect the movie or the outcome Once the action does begin the movie includes spectacular aerial shots intense action scenes and a graphic bear attack that proves the theold theold theold old adage some days you get the bear and some days the bear gets you If you can stay awake through the first half the remainder of the film is fairly entertaining although gory gory- While director Lee brought two established veteran actors together for this film the acting acting acting act act- ing did not seem to fit with the idea of the movie Too many subplots detract from the film and leave one wondering which plot is most important The Edge is a worthy effort and could have been better had someone decided which direction to togo go go- t 11 y Y t y fid r vit 7 a Y 1 A 1 S 'S X V to Anothony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin portray two men struggling struggling struggling gling to survive I |
