| Show t Hillbillies Invade Desert Star I By Charles Barnard Managing Editor The Desert Star Playhouse is up to the their same old comedy tricks with the recent opening of Hillbillies The Original Family Feud Hillbillies continues the tradition tradition tradition tion of farces put on by the playhouse Hillbillies follows the story of Buddy Clam and his clan of kinsfolk kinsfolk kinsfolk kins kins- folk as they move from the back country country coun coun- try tryout out to Beverly Hills after an energy company discovers that Grannys Granny's moonshine might be a replacement to oil Soon a family feud erupts between the Clams Clam's and their neighbors the Welchs Welch's who whose e fortune was made in inthe inthe inthe the oil business The rest of the story consists of the Welchs Welch's attempt to steal Grannys Granny's recipe The cast of characters includes Buddy Clam Christopher Aguayo who heads his clan as they try to assimilate into the lifestyle of Beverly Hills JT Clam Nicholas Brunn Bruun is the well meaning but to not-to-bright son who wh has his eyes on the beautiful Shannon Welch Kaycee Raquel Mae Jenny-Mae Clam Jennifer Sylvester is younger sister who tries to keep her brother out of trouble Will E. E Welch is the greedy oil executive who tries to steal the moonshine recipe from Granny Pitt Danielle Omer Orner Jason Welch R. R Russel Durrant Durrani is the California surfer dude who falls for Mae Jenny-Mae and helps foil his fathers father's plan Grandpa Welsh Andrew Looney is the conscience of the family family family ly that falls for Granny Pitt Beth Bruner Burner was the writer and director for Hillbillies Most of her dialogue was very well written and very funny Local humor abounds throughout the play playas as jokes about the Jazz the 2002 Olympics and even our very own are used The cast also did an outstanding job I j jr A lr tf mss w wA A v r is l y rl r l r r 4 y i ft M d L Jk Photo Courtesy of Desert Star Playhouse Nick Bruun as JT Clam and Kaycee Raquel as Shannon Welch in Playhouses Playhouse's Hillbillies The Original Family Feud After Hillbillies ended the cast stayed to perform the Sock Hoppin Do Bee Olio This is a song and dance review that is performed performed per per- per per- formed at the end of every show The whole cast sing and dance to songs of the golden age of rock and roll Some of the songs they performed included Lets Go to the Hop Robin Blue Moon and a tribute to Elvis This was my first visit to the Desert Star Playhouse and I was surprised by how much fun it was The atmosphere was great As you walk into the theater theater theater the the- ater you are shown to your table where a basket of pop corn com awaits you You also have the option to order drinks ice cream or even pizza which is brought out to your table I The performances are also very I entertaining to watch The audience gets involved with the performers by cheering the heroes and booing the vil vil- lains The cast also does a great job of interacting with the crowd All of this just adds to th the fun factor involved The Sock Hoppin Olio at the end of the performance was as much if not more fun than the Hillbillies itself especially if you enjoy oldies music Hillbillies runs every Monday Thursday Friday and Saturday and will be playing through August 2 I highly recommend Hillbillies t along with the Sock Hoppin Olio If you need a date idea or just It want a fun evening out here it is I |
