Show Berman Expresses Beliefs By Chris Fergeson Astrologist Astra Dr Morris Berman from Seattle Washington was on the Redwood Campus May 1st an and 2nd According to Berman many of the prescribed medications for depression are only curing the symptoms and not the actual we lems-we are faced with as humans He lectured on many subjects while here on campus One of his lectures was titled How We Grow Up Or Dont He discussed how important the experiences experiences experiences children from the ages of zero to five are in creating their personalities and emotional abili abili- ties According to Berman by age five most of us have been traumatized traumatized traumatized trauma trauma- out of our ego shell This happens happens happens hap hap- pens in even the most normal lies Whether it be the death of a close loved one one a divorce physical verbal or sexual abuse by this age we have learned to put up an emotional emotional emotional emo emo- front to the world around us Berman also said that nothing is usually done about these traumas and they are regressed into the back backof backof backof of our minds Many times by the time people hit adulthood they are suffering from migraine headaches lower lowerback lowerback lowerback back pains and many other problems problems problems lems that could be symptoms of regressed emotions such as anger and fear According to Berman there are two paths past the trauma and the regressed emotions that most people people people peo peo- tend to follow One is the path of depression People spend their entire lives depressed In most cases it is women that find this path to go t through life Many of those people are depressed because of the regressed emotions that they are holding within themselves Many depressed individuals seek help and are put on medication such as Prozac and Berman said that in most cases these drugs only cure the symptoms and never scratch the surface of the thereal thereal thereal real problems The next path is the ego assertion assertion assertion asser asser- tion path In most instances it is men that take this pathway through life We as humans are shown how to take out our problems on other people After many years of over- over asserting themselves some people seek help because of ulcers lower lowerback lowerback lowerback back pains and migraine headaches They are lead through the path of drugs just as the depressed people are leaving us with a nation of people on Prozac and Berman gives us a third pathway to follow This is the pathway of the t I re-living re process He suggests that after we go through the traumas that are almost impossible to stop from happening to a child we begin to grow into adulthood Then we should reflect on our childhood and find out what has caused us to be what we are today Berman said Freedom is s what you do with what has been done to you He also said that many many times es we can pull ourselves out the depressions we face and we we will be beable beable beable able to move forward into a productive tive society He suggested meditating meditating ing and relaxing and then thinking about ourselves as children He also suggested that we regress through the past Start with last year and work your way forward He He said that its it's never easy at first but that we would grow with each memory we face |
