Show What Happened to the Smoking Law Dear Editor Cough Gasp I thought I heard something about a Utah Clean Air Act that was passed around the first of the year Oh yes I believe it said something like No smoking inside any public building or within 25 feet of any entrance Wait back up a second Did that say no Uno smoking within 25 feet of any entrance Like 25 feet as in 12 inches in a foot Are there some feet that are less than 12 inches Maybe a metric foot or something Because I swear there are people standing not more than a few feet from the doors at both the South City Campus and the Redwood Road Campus creating a cloud of cancer causing smoke that I have to breathe each time I enter I see that the ash trays have been moved 25 feet from the doors I appreciate appreciate appreciate the administrations act to comply with the regulations Unfortunately many smokers choose not to obey Not only do they still stand near the en en- trance and force us to inhale their deadly smoke they no longer have a convenient place to dispose of their cancer causing trash The doorways and surrounding areas have become littered with cigarette butts Can it be the smokers are not aware of the new law Possibly they think moving the ash trays was a persons idea of a practical joke Maybe smoking has an effect on a persons judgement of distance And the solution to this problem Signs large enough to be seen through the coagulation of smoke informing smokers it is no longer legal to smoke within 25 feet of any entrance may help Loss of money always gets peoples people's attention I believe some type of fine or punishment was in included included included in- in in the Clean Air Act Maybe its it's time it was applied Dave Manning Communications Major |
