C Morgan Contributing Writer Throughout the month of April green beans have been sprouting all allover allover allover over Redwood Campus But contrary to popular belief these green beans grow on billboards and in classrooms instead of vegetable gardens On April 6 6 many green bean flyers began to appear and instructors displayed displayed displayed dis dis- dis- dis played a can of green beans while teaching cla classes ses W Why y all these references references references refer refer- to green beans Students may not know it it is in the midst of the Green Bean Campaign sponsored by the BACCHUS Club and Peer Support Team of the Alcohol and Drug Education Program So what does it mean Students repeatedly asked this question when green bean flyers were pointed out to them some even expressed opinions on how they felt about the flyers Tonya Gibbs student thought the flyers were funny while student Steve Evans said I think they're pretty ugly Nathan Cheshire student came close to a possible motive behind the flyers as he concluded probably there to raise interest about something But why use harmless green beans to deal with the issue of Alcohol Alcohol Alcohol Al Al- cohol Abuse Its a different twist to Alcohol Prevention and Awareness Diane Cashel director of Alcohol and Drug Education said At first the flyers are vague and harmless but later they get more as Alcohol Abuse is addressed The final flyer gives information of where students might get help for those with alcohol problems Though the campaign is new to it has been used at other col col- col- col leges Originally started stalled at Tallahassee Community College three years ago the Green Bean Campaign has spread across the country to get students talking talking talking talk talk- ing about alcoholism Now that the campaign is at Cashel hopes the response will be similar similar similar sim sim- ilar to other colleges with increased alcohol al alcohol alcohol al- al cohol awareness Even though students students students stu stu- stu- stu dents may find the campaign stupid or lame any student reaction in il itself elf positive because students will be talking talking talking talk talk- ing about alcoholism Cashel said |
