Show SIS comes to 34 Raymond West Staff Writer AUGUST will bring about the completion of a two year project to toto toto toto to develop and implement a new student information system for student records The new system which is to replace the current one will offer many advantages and enhancements to benefit students and staff The name of the new system is and it is used by more than colleges and universities world world- wide Eric Weber director of Student Administrative Services is serving as the chairman for the Implementation Committee The project is being coordinated with the colleges college's Computing Services Department directed by Marvin Hawkins Students and staff are currently involved in testing the new system in preparation of it coming into full utilization this summer Weber said 1 Immediate improvements can be expected in information used for academic advising better transcript management and enhanced coordination between financial aid and student awards Changing to the new system will not come without sacrifice however While the SIS plus system is placed into live operation active use of the entire student information system must be stopped while all the information information information mation is transferred from one system to the other Hawkins estimates that more than records must be converted from the old system to the new one Its not possible to have the student data remain live during the conversion conversion conversion con con- version time Hawkins said There is no good time to be without our student information system but the new system is is' a necessity if Salt Lake Community College is going to continue to grow grew responsibly Weber said The period from August 1 to 12 was selected as the best time to complete the conversion During the conversion time many services in Student Services Services Services Ser Ser- Ser Ser- vices and the Cashie Cashiering og Office will either be limited or performed manually Financial Aid Registration and Admissions will be especially y effected by the transition Students are encouraged to prepare early for fall quarter by registering and completing financial aid paper work before the transition begins |
