Show Larson T To 0 Face Standards Of Review Board By Chad Taylor The Student Senate following their investigative committees committee's j recommendations voted unanimously that Melinda Larson r Publications Vice President should face a Standards of Review Revie Board This decision followed a petition submitted to the Senate based on a yX K dissatisfaction with Horizon the student newspaper The Senate also surveyed students before taking taking taking tak tak- ing action The board bo rd consists of the Executive Executive Executive tive Council excluding Larson on ony y this occasion and three senators r with the job of deciding what action should be taken against student M rv government officials that are not Melinda Larson Publications VP V.P. meeting academic standards or are not fulfilling their responsibilities Their job is is not to decide if wrong has been done Executive Vice President Vance Sperry said That has already been deter deter- mined Their job is to decide what action should be taken Punishments Punishments Punishments Punish Punish- ments issued by the Standards of Review Board can range from a written reprimand to removal from office Larson expressed little concern about going before the board She said she was only concerned that students have concerns She was confident that the facts will come come out and they will see the truth Personally Larson says she doesn't like what is happening But for the newspaper she believes it ins itis is helpful People are picking up the paper to read about the commotion commotion commotion commo commo- tion she said That is good Larson stated that short of removal from office her going before the board would not affect the newspaper There will be some personal setbacks but I wont won't let lef it affect the paper Sperry pointed out that by bringing bringing bringing br br- br- br students' students feelings into the open the investigation has helped the paper But he said If the newspaper just blows it off it could be very very han harmful I feel really confident with my staff Larson said done really well with what 01 I Other recommendations I by the investigative committee included a future bill to further outline the qualifications for the office of Publications VP V.P. and an oral recommendation to the Publications Publications Council to change their charter to tOJ include additional qualifications for the Editor This recommendation Larson Larson Larson Lar Lar- son says is currently being worked on |
