Show Bush is military wise but humanitarian foolish Dear Editor I have a problem understanding understanding under under- understanding standing President Bu Bushs Bush's hs h's present foreign policy especially that concerning Serbia and its relentless ravishing of the Bosnian Bosnian Bosnian Bos Bos- nian state and people Is he failing failing failing fail fail- ing to do more than a token rescue rescue rescue res res- res- res cue effort to help relieve their suffering sufferings because they have no money to offer in return Bush w was s so ready to take credit for his part in the downfall of the structure of the Soviet Union and its communist communist communist com com- regime I remember his call to liT Tear ear down that that- wall wal I can well imagine his pride and posturing when the Berlin wall d did d ind indeed ed come down and the Communist Communist Communist Com Com- rule lost its iron grip over the individual states What now though Did Bush think that people who for fora a full generation have had no need to worry about taking care car of themselves would suddenly suddenly suddenly sud sud- denly become sufficient self-sufficient and just automatically take up the slack where their provider and government left off Did he think that a new democratic sovereignty would suddenly form and all people within the former Soviet State would conform to that new government Wake up Mr Bush People left to govern themselves will turn to anarchy anarchy anarchy anar anar- chy and will seek to squash those weaker than themselves Such is the case of the Bosnian Bosnian Bosnian Bos Bos- nian state where in one village alone Ione over oyer people per day ar are starving to to death an and dying of dysentery since all of their rich once-rich farmlands and thriving thriving thriving ing community has been left leftin leftin leftin in ruins by the ruthless Serb guerrillas The Serbs have raped burned pillaged and stolen stole basically anything worth s stealing ealing and are still preventing shipments of food and medical supplies from reaching the badly ravaged Bosnian people President Bush you were there for Kuwait when and his is Iraqi army invaded You sent basically ally everything you could without raising the theire theire theire ire of Congress immediately after the invasion occurred Our servicemen fought a hope hope- lessly sided one-sided war ewar crushing the Iraqi army as if it was nothing You left their people and those that live unwillingly under the rule of the Kurds starving and without the basic necessities of life Tens of thousands of people died from the aftermath of disease disease dis dis- disease ease and starvation yet you did little about it You said we cannot interfere in domestic affairs of other countries Youre You're t taking king the same atti attitude attitude at at- ti tude with Bosnia- Bosnia sending a token force to protect the supplies so badly needed by these country you yourself could have very easily been born into But you weren't born in another country Mr Bush you were born in this one And now you are our president if only for a short time to come As you reflect reflect on your presidency Mr Bush Im I'm sure you will remember the Gulf Goff War with pride Your rich oil-rich friends were saved from their fascist invaders invaders invaders in in- eventually their country will return to normal and once again the free-flowing free oil will make the sheiks of Kuwait richer that anybody on earth has a aright aright aright right to be How much food clothing and medicine could have been purchased with all the billions of dollars we spent on th the war How many people could have been saved the devastation suffering and pain of bf helplessly watching hing J their e r I fh children I p n parents and siblings die slow deaths from starvation and dIseases diseases diseases dis dIs- dis- dis eases borne of filth While being so ready to spend spend spend in order to bring democracy to the world dont don't forget that with freedom comes responsibility and that responsibility costs money until the newly freed nation can provide for and defend itself As the ghosts of the millions millions millions mil mil- lions of needlessly dead people come back to haunt you I hope you can rest well in the hoin homes s of your grateful Kuwaiti friends Sincerely KathrynM Kathryn M.
